Does anyone have insure their boat with Erie? Maybe its just my agent but it doesn't seem as if Erie is all that qualified to insure bigger boats that are kept in the water. I see nothing included in my quote and my agent knows nothing of salvage coverage, fuel spill coverage and suggested a ridiculously low liability of 100k. I was also told that Erie does not do agreed value. I do not know if it is my agent or Erie that seems out of their league here. Any advice on Erie would be greatly appreciated!!

I got some quotes from BoatUS, NBOA, United Marine Underwriters and Progressive as well. They were all averaging around 1300-1400 for my 2005 320DA which seems high to me considering some other premiums for bigger newer boats that I have seen searching this site. UMU was the best price at $850 and included all of the necessary coverage. So, Im not sure if everyone else is ridiculously high or what the deal is.

We have had Erie in the past for home, auto and boats. Great company, but they take only low risk. We used to have our boat on a lake in Virginia, when we moved to the coast, i did not tell them because I did not think it mattered, a couple months later I was talking to our agent, she said we have not had this conversation and get new insurance from somebody else within 30 days.

I Have ACE for the SeaRay and Erie for the whaler. The reason I chose Erie for the Whaler is that I have multiple policies with Erie including an umbrella. You are correct that they don't do many boat policies. I think they are fine for a smaller boat but I would look elsewhere for a yacht. I added additional coverage for personal effects and equipment to the basic policy as I felt it was insufficient. I have been happy with Erie for years though.

My policy is agreed value. Maybe they only do it up to a certain value?

I have several friends who have had very bad experiences with Erie. Having said that, I've had very few pleasant insurance experiences with any insurance company...

Yeah, I have used them for a long time for home, auto, boats and jet skis and all of my business' insurance needs. I have found them to be great and reasonably priced. I also love my local agent but I dont think Erie is the answer for my current boating needs unfortunately.

You have an agreed policy with Erie? I was told by my agent that Erie doesn't do that. Ive been thrilled with Erie for all of my personal and business needs but Im not loving them for my new boat.

I haven't loved experiences with other insurance agencies in the past but I have found Erie to be great. Ive also talked to other people on this site and another boating forum who have loved how Erie handled their claims but I won't be taking a chance with them on my current boat.

I have my Sea Ray covered through Travelers. It's a yacht policy that covers the boat with an agreed upon value. It also will cover environmental damage separately from the value of the boat. It also covers the dinghy (2010 Whaler with 40hp Merc) as part of the policy.

Travelers did and excellent job for me when I had a runaway starter on the stbd engine. http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/a-bit-of-a-scare-this-weekend.75440/#post-856110

Travelers stepped up and paid the bill which ran a bit north of $35K. At one point about midway through they questioned the claim, sent a surveyor out to verify what had been submitted and after he sent in his report they continued to pay the bills as submitted until the whole claim was done.

By way of a disclaimer, I have no connection to Travelers.

You got me thinking so I looked over the policy. It is a stated value policy not agreed value. My agent had assured me that I would be paid the actual value of everything I have invested. This does not seem to be the case. My policy with ACE is agreed value.

Travelers was next on my list to contact!
