Engine shuts down after being on plane

1995 330 DA, V-drives, 454 carbs. Starts normal. Idles normal. Get the boat up on plane and when I come back down (slowly) the port engine runs rough and then shuts down. Starts up again and is fine. Mechanic looked at the carb and ignition and all is good. What is going on? Thanks in advance!

No clue...how do you diagnose that?

Have you switched the Port engine to draw fuel from the Starboard tank? That will help narrow the problem down.

I took the boat out for a spin with the mechanic this morning and it ran perfect.......figures.

Just a wild guess...water in the fuel tank? Maybe getting the tank at a certain attitude coming off plane that the water accumulation in the bottom of the tank is positioned where the pickup is located. The system draws in the water, the engine sputters and all is well again when the boat (and fuel tank) return to a level position.

maybe...but doubtful. The mechanic thought it could be something that was in the carb or making the float in the carb stick?

I'm the last guy to diagnose an engine issue but had a water issue with my outboard boat so that stuck in my head and I threw it out there for consideration. My engine knowledge doesn't go beyond a simple oil change and knowing the hourly rate of my mechanic. Good luck.
