I have a 290 Sundancer that has hydraulics to open the hatch - quit once before and they replaced the switch. They told me (when I bought it) that it could be opened manually. New service guys say it has to be hauled out - not sure how that will help open it ---anybody know anything about manually opening the hatch? Thanks!

there is an inspection plate on engine hatch.
open cover and remove pin which holds hatch and piston together

Will check that out first thing in the morning - I'm not sure where the inspection plate is but should be able to find it! Couldn't remember if there was one piston or two. Thanks for your help.

Ok so u squeeze ur hand tru the inspection plate and manage to contort ur hand to remove the pin. How in gods name are u going to dead lift the hatch ? Im thinking they want to haul the boat and get a fork lift in place to lift the hatch if it leads to that.

What year is your boat? There should be a lifting ring on the hatch, no?

Its a 2006 - I checked it out today and there is a round metal plate in the center of the hatch - in front of the rear seat - for a table to fit into (which is stored on the underside of the hatch), and there is also a round plastic cover underneath the rear seat that unscrews, and lifts off to open, and you can sort of see into the engine compartment. No lifting ring that I can find. Does the 2007 have an actual lifting ring?

Once you unscrew plastic cover you should be able to feel (not necessarily see) piston and locking pin which may or may not have pull ring. Hope that no-one replaced pin with bolt and locking nut.

I'm sure I couldn't lift it easily but if I could free the pin, at least there is a chance of rigging up a pulley to lift the hatch...better to use brains than braun. At any rate, I appreciate the help. I'll repost when (if?) I get it open!

to lift it - up remove table base and stick piece of 2x4 or piece of pipe wrapped with rope and you should be able to lift it.
