I have limited experience, but have designed and produced a fresh water rinse system in the transom where you don't have to close the through hull. Based on what I learned from this experience, the following is what I recommend. Be advised that I cannot see all of your system, and don't know of any check valves or other protections.

Follow the tubes. If they splice into the raw water pick up, which I bet they do, then:
Hook up the hose to one nozzle (water off)
Start the respective engine
Turn on the respective hose
Close the respective through hull and ensure water is still flowing out of exhaust outlet
Taste water from side of boat
When clean, allow to rinse one more minute
Turn engine and hose off at same time
If unable, turn engine off and then run back and turn hose off
Open through hull
Repeat for opposite side

Do not run the engine for a second without hose on or through hull open - impeller will be toast
Do not leave hose on with engine off more than a few seconds (if at all) - muffler will fill up and water will flow into the cylinders through any open exhaust valves
Anyone recognize the system and have better advice?

Based on your last question, I suggest to have local marine mechanic to go over the system, show you and explain how everything works. There's nothing wrong by having the learning curve, but I feel that some knowledge has to be done in person to make sure you don't miss a critical part.

If you don't have anyone local and still rely on CSR members to help you, then we need more detailed pictures and more specific questions.

I don't mean to sound negative, but just trying to help.

Yep. Don't know. Consult a mechanic.
