I was running my 2004 Sea Ray 270 Sundeck about 35mph this weekend and got a warning alarm. Checked water temp, oil gauges and all ok. Got into a no wake zone and put the boat into neutral and it died. I couldn't start it in neutral but then disengaged the transmission, throttled it up and it started fine. I tried to put it back in gear but it died again. Tried several times and finely got it to start and got back home but the alarm kept sounding every few minutes. Temp and oil were still good. Has anyone had a similar experience or have an idea of the problem? A person at West Marine thought it could be an oxygen sensor. Thanks for any help.

This sounds to me like the IAC. I believe it means idle adjustment controller. I just had the same thing happen to me for the second time in 6 years. It was replaced yesterday and all is well.

IAC is a very common failure. Takes 10 minutes and a $120 part. I would start there. 2 beeps every 30 sec or minute is the code. My 350 mag has a ford part cross over. $129 merc price, $69 at NAPA. Look yours up online in a parts diagram, then cross reference it to see if there is one.

I agree this sounds like the IAC.

I do not agree that a Auto Zone Ford Automotive IAC should be substituted. That exact part and reasons have been discussed here before so I will say no more.

The last Mercury IAC I bought was about $90 online. As stated, the dealer does want $120-$130

Thanks for the info on the IAC valve. I bought one online for about $90 plus a new gasket. Installed it then fired up the engine just fine. Took it for a test run and all worked fine. Thanks for the information and assistance.
