I am the NEW owner of an OLDER Searay (1998 BR 175 I/O). The engine cover slides off when trailering over rough road....So, I imagine it is going to slide off when on the water. Anyone have this problem? I can put a bungee or something on there, but looking for a better solution.

engine hatches usually have a captive hinge, what type do you have now?

Mayne that's the problem....former owners must have taken hinge off It does not connect at all... just sits there. The seat cushions on each side hold it in place most of the time.

If memory serves, and it's like the 180 that replaced the 175, there should be an aluminum U-channel screwed to the aft bulkhead and two, nylon rods screwed to the underside (top, rear edge) of the motorbox. The nylon rods sit down into the u-channel to secure it. Yours may be missing.

Here is a video that shows how the engine cover and sunpad are secured (might recognize that SeaRay Dealership). Looks like the sunpad itself is held down by snap straps.

Hey, what do you know! Thanks Bill, for the detective work! And... I'm glad my memory is still functioning properly... at least this time :)
