Hello,

I took the boat out last weekend after changing the fluids the previous weekend.
We ran about 40 miles down lake when all of the sudden the port engine lost power and started blowing black soot smoke. The engine was about 180F when the power loss happened.
The engine in a 1998 Cat 3126.

The Cat dealer told me there is an up dated exhaust manifold and turbo. Should I replace the existing turbo with a reman or go with the new turbo and manifold?

Also I am not sure it is the turbo in the first place. Maybe the turbo drain came loose and I lost boost.

The engine starts and idles fine. When I rev up the motor in neutral I can hear a turbo whistle and the engine sounds good. In gear under load there is no power and a lot of black smoke.

The Second problem is my original Raytheon Raydate lost all data ie, depth, water temp, and speed. I have had problems with this unit locking up in the past to where I have to shut off the 12V disconnect to reset it. This time it is just showing bars and no info the fuse is good and has power just no read out. Could this be a problem with the transponder?
Can I replace a transponder while the boat is floating? Is there an upgraded system that I should switch to?

If anyone has any info I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks.
