What emergency anchor/rope kit would be good for a situation in which your in very shallow SAND/MUDDY water, engines off, not fully grounded, and a strong current moving you into shallower water...:smt009 and wanting to stay put tides rises

Is there a anchor rope kit

Tie a rope around one leg of your mother-in-law and a nice big steak around the other leg. I find they make good anchors. :smt043

ok ok sorry, finished arguing with mine and that's the first thing i thought of.

That's ok,
i use to argue with mine also...she's dead now

Mother in law's are a PIA. The hard part is not letting it get between you and your wife! :smt013

Anyways, to be of some help. Here is a link to the stern/spare/emergency... whatever you want to call it... anchor that I have on my 280. In heavy winds it holds the stern of my boat in place just fine.

thanks,,,i looked at that .but its for a 16 footer, big enough for my boat ?

Sorry, what i was getting at w/ that link was the style anchor i bought. I think i got a heavier one. The important thing is that it has a chain on it. When i went West Marine they were able to tell me how heavy of an anchor i should have for my size boat. I wanted a big enough one that I could use in a pinch to hold the entire boat... not just as a stern/secondary anchor.

yes, thats what i want also......something i can just manually throw overboard

Bill, You own a Sea Ray !!. You don't need no stinking emergency anchor.
Our girls stay put where we anchor them.
Now if you owned a Bayliner then I'd worry. :smt043

Hey Wayne.....About time you chime in....:smt021
I really don't want to drop the big boy in shallow water, its a PIA with that windlass senario,
i just want to grab and throw in a hurry...This bay we are in is really a puddle with a strong currents that could move me very fast into ground fast if i don't act fast......

I would go for this one also.. I'm on a small pond so I don't need one.

Bill,

Go with a Fortress anchor. They are aluminum and despite being light, they lock in solid. I use one a size smaller than the recommended size for our boat as a stern anchor, but I bet it would hold just fine in reasonable conditions if needed. The other neat thing is that they mechanically disassemble.

This is exactly what I do. Plus I have 15-ft of 1/4 inch chain also attached.

The other thing to consider is where will you store this anchor & rode? The 310 is a great boat, but I think the storage stinks. The transom locker fills up awfully fast with lines and fenders, I stuff all the kids send toys and extra lifejackets under the seats in the cockpit... hard to find another spot that's easily accessible. We keep our "spare" anchor under the very front of the bed - in that triangular storage area. Not the most convenient spot, but if we're in an emergency I think I can dig it out pretty fast!
