We have a '96 270 Sundancer with a vacuflush system. When you press the "flush button" as the kids call it, only a minimal amount of water comes in from the freshwater pump. Thoughts ?
I was wondering if the strainer might be a good place to start. As you might be able to tell we're new to the boating world so any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks.......Great site !

Only one comes to mind..... water flow is impeded in some way. Tank empty?, filter on water pump inlet is stopped up?, water pump not working or air locked?..............

Gary, Vacuflush problem on isle 3.

(Gary is the resident vacuflush expert)

Everytime someone says that word (vacuflush), it gives me the shivers.

I'm giving him a hard time, but he does know a lot about this system.

Do you have good water flow in other areas? - Particularly, the bathroom sink? If so, then I would suspect that your water valve on the toilet needs replacing. Its a very simple job - part # 314349 runs about $36 from THIS SOURCE .

If you're gonna do it, you might consider replacing a few other parts while you're 'in there' such as the bowl seal, ball, shaft and spring cartridge. You can buy kits and save a little money.

I'm confused what a "flush button" is. Do you have a button to push or do you have a pedal on the toilet you push down? I'm not aware of an electric vacuflush toilet on a Sea Ray.

I would check the water flow starting at the toilet and work backwards past the water valve. If you have a pedal on toilet, inside of that is a water cartridge that turns the water on and off when you flush. There is a hose between the water cartridge and the toilet and it plugs into the backside of the toilet and is easy to remove. I would pull that off the toilet (easy friction connection on mine) and then push the pedal down and see if you have good water flow. If you do, then maybe the insides of the toilet itself are clogged up with calcium/hard water deposits.

If you don't have good water flow at the toilet, then turn off your water and undo the water connection going into the water cartridge. Turn the water back on and if you have good water flow there, then it is the cartridge that needs replacing. If you don't, then your problem is upstream at your water pumps and/or plumbing.

It's an electric system. I think it has the macerator too but it's disabled or bypassed due to our location.
We've got really good water flow in the other areas since they rely on the holding tank for. We've never tried the water heater yet but once we have enough time to stay on in a day or two we'll try that.
If I understand correctly, which is a big if, the head draws water from the lake thru the seacock then a filter before it hits the bowl. It's realy dirty as it comes thru.....
Love the boat, just lots of questions...

Thanks for all of the ideas...!

divinwithdad,

We have a 2003 280 Sundancer. It has vacuflush. There is not much water flow. I think its set to 1/2 liter. If I take a #2 I also have toilet paper in the bowl. It takes a couple of flushes to get everything down.

After the flush there is not a lot of water in the bowl. Not like a house toilet. More like a toilet on a jet. Just a bit of water in the bottom of the bowl.

Have someone close to you show you there head. Flush it. Is this much more then the flow you have?

EDIT
You have a 1996 270DA (Sundancer)
Here is the flyer

You could have a manual head or an electric head. I don’t know what you have.

I think you have an electric head.

It's a '96 270 Sundancer. When you "flush" it there is a trickle of water that come out from around the rim of the toilet. Typicall there is no water, or very minimal, that remains in the basin.
As you look the head the bowl is on the right. On the cabinet with the sink in it has the key control. Says power, full, empty...
You turn the key to power on and if you turn it further it moves to th
discharge mode. I can hear something buzzing but it still does not affect the flow.
There is a black button you push and hold to flush. We'll that's the theory anyway.
We had it pumped and flushed last weekend but since the intake and holding are separate, at least from what I can read, this really should not make a difference. But it made my wife happier.

Once we get through this issue I've got a couple of easier ones.....at least I think they're easier.

When we flush our head we hear a fast sound “SsowwW†and it’s done. Again, similar to the toilet on a jet.

I recommend you ask another boater to let you see their head flush so you know if you have a problem.

It works !

I finally had time to spend a few hours on the boat without the usual distractions and it's amazing what you can learn about a boat.
There was a seacock valve that was not open fully. Since the dealer dropped the boat in the water for delivery and did setup I think we'll have a short chat tomorrow.
So...the head now works, the other mystseries of the boat are making sense. It's a good day.....of to the lake :)
Anyway....Thanks for all the conversation.

In our 2001 290 we can lift the pedal up before the #2 takes place and it will put more water in the toilet bowl. The lady on another boat gave my wife that tip.......

I think the original poster should go in and edit/change the topic of this thread. This is not a vacuflush toilet/system but is obviously a system that pulls water from under the boat and has a macerator on it and dumps into a holding tank. That is NOT vacuflush.

Thank you! I will next be at the boat on Tuesday and will give that a try.
