MerCruiser 5.0L MPI ECT w/Bravo 1 sterndrive standard engine (260 hp - 194kW)
I’m winterizing my engine this weekend and wanted to know if someone can tell me the proper mix for the fuel system for a MerCruiser EFI 8 cyl. inboard/outboard with a cool fuel module.

I know it’s a combination of gas in a small po y tank,, two cycle oil and stabilizer but want to reconfirm the quantities…

5g of gas, 64oz 2-stroke, 5oz stabilizer. Can't hurt to add extra stabilizer.

But, you could just add 2oz of 2-stroke and an ounce of stabilizer right into the fuel canister.

Run for 5 min at 1,200. If you're using the portable tank, then you can obviously run longer.

So if I just open up where my fuel filter is by the cool fuel module I could just pour directly into there and just let it run when I flush the pink through the motor? Sounds too simple..

You'd still need to drain the block, manifolds and hot water heater heating lines. Also your raw water pump - and then bump the engine a few times to fully clear the raw water pump housing. Ideally, you should really pull the little drain hoses off the sides of the block and probe those holes. They can get clogged and you wouldn't know if it's fully drained just by using the blue handle or lower blue plug.

Depending on how fast your impeller picks up the AF, you may have to turn off the engine and add more AF.

Thanks!

I run 2 gallons of pink through the drives after it hits temp to open the thermostat. Then shut off. Pull all blue plugs and drain. Then pull off waterpump hose at top and add another gallon to motor and watch it flow out off all blue plug holes. Best way i found to sleep at night to make sure the girls are nice and ready for the winter

I like Dennis' method. You're replacing those fuel filters anyway! So you can add the 2-stroke oil + gas + stabil to the new filters, and run for the 5 minutes and you've winterized the fuel system.

I don’t have the Cool Fuel 3, however I do the fuel filter method. I purchase 2 filters, because they’re cheap enough, and use one for the mix, toss it, then spin on another new one for next season. My guess is you’d do the same with CF3 filters as well?

Why would you toss a perfectly good filter?

I change my fuel filters in the spring after I start the motor and let it warm up after it’s long winter nap… oil filter gets done with the fresh oil at the end of the season.

FYI, I did the fuel mix and drained the boock prior to using the pink/purple stuff. I also lucked out in that a friend of mine had a block heater that he was no longer using so I put that down in my bilge. It kicks on at 50° automatically.

They’re cheap enough and it won’t have 2 stroke oil lingering around in it
Ollie, if that's the reason, save your money. 2-stroke goes right through the filter media.

10-4…. I figured at $12 or so, just toss it.

I always run mine an hour or two in the spring and then change the filter. This was my first time winterizing the Volvo, I ran it on a portable tank with the 2 cycle mix vs the fuel filter method.

I know I'm a little late, as I just read you post/question.

Unplug the fuel line after the filter, and use a remote fuel tank.
6 gallon fuel tank
2- 1/2 gallons of 89 octane or better fuel.
1 quarts of premium plus 2-cycle TC-W3 outboard oil.
2-1/2 ounces of Fuel treatment/stabilizer.

This gives me enough to both my engines, plus my generator for 2 years.
