Has anyone ever made this trip? A friend told me last week that it was a great trip. However, I've got a small gas tank, and not much protection from the weather. Any thoughts?

Paul, we're going to be at Edisto Aug 5-11. A friend told me that trip is one of the most beautiful around. I don't know how much time it would save since we'd be leaving from Edisto rather than Charleston. What would you estimate the time? Not that we would be in a hurry!

Mike 3 or 4 hours is more than enough time for the trip. It is about a 70 mile trip out of Charleston.

It takes me less than 3 hours from Charleston to Beaufort. I will be doing it again this weekend for the Water Festiville. It is a great on the water party.

Less than three hours. Are you running inside or outside. I can make it in about 3 hours running inside with three boats or less on the inside, but with a large group, it's a lot closer to four hours.

Well, I just got back from the water festival in Beaufort. It took 3 of us 3hrs 15mins to go from the Charleston Maritime Center to the Beaufort City Marina. I trailed as I had to go much slower near all the docks on the Intracoastal, but I made up for with the speed when we had faster waters. I travelled with a 1997 330DA and a 2001 290 Amberjack. The 330 cruised at around 21knots, the Amberjack said he was racing to keep up, and I was only turing 1850RPMs to maintain that speed.
I used to go much faster (a little over 2 hours if I remember right) with my 32' Maxum that would cruise and 32knots and not leave much of a wake, but those days are over. Only one pissing match about my wake with the owner of a local boat dealer. He had a couple of big boats tied up and thought I was not going to come off plane. I did delay that action momentarily to exchange secret boater's hand and arm gestures, but I did back off in time to leave his boats safe.
Now I am back in Charleston trying to rest and dry out for a while. It is a good thing these events only happen occasionally.
BTW, there are very few docks and houses to slow down for in between Edisto and Beaufort.
