Ear Muff install

I bought a pair of ear muffs to change the oil and start up my boat before taking it on the water this weekend.

Just want to make sure all is working now before finding out on the dock:)

I have a 2001 Sea Ray 180 with the 3.5 Merc.

The directions were not too good that came with them.

Just slide the the two muffs over the outdrive where the two holes are snuggly and then put the hose to the attachment? I am probably not saying the right terminology..

Anything else I am missing?

Thanks, Jeff

careful about turning the water on to much when the motor isnt running. the force of the water can cause the muffs to slide off the opening. I think they recommend to turn your faucet on 1/2. You can always turn it up after you got the motor started.

Yeah, like we want to help a guy that is getting his boat out in March!

You got it right; just put the ear muffs over the intake holes on the outdrive with the hose connected and the water running. Do make sure that the ear muffs are directly over the holes when the engines starts up. And its a good idea to not venture away from the boat when its hooked up like that just in case the ear muffs slip off for some reason.

I took a look at my outdrive in detail. Those 6/7 holes lined up straight is where I put the muffs at? Just want to be sure. They look like a vent. Thanks!

I've been looking for a video or picture for you but all Ican find right now is for an Outboard. Check it out. See the water coming out of the prop? Yours should be coming out each side of the sterndrive where it passes through the hull.

Outboard flushing video

found another video for Suzuki outboard. Shows how to slide on to the motor

Thanks for the replies!

It is going to be almost 80 degrees out here  :smt038
Ok here it's 38, so since you said that, place the earmuffs firmly over your ears, let the admiral turn the hose on full blast, take pictures and post them here.......that should do it.

Seriously, I like the Quicksilver style of flush kit it has a pin which connects the two sides of the flush kit and doesn't allow it to slip off. Yes you're right on the alignment over the vents

Remember, idle only! Anything faster could cause the hose to collapse from the pump pressure and starve the engine.
