Lake St. Clair - Michigan (MacRay Harbor)
Boat Info
2008 - Formula 400ss
Engines
Volvo Penta D6-350
I was out on the lake yesterday getting kinks out and I noticed my engine data wasn’t working on my second e120. The monitoring page comes up but no data is showing. I’m hoping I’m just missing something easy

Any ideas?

Thanks fellas

Rich - did you have that data before?
If you did then someone provided a conversion to read the engine data on your E120 which is not so simple.
The E120 has three types of data ports; Seatalk/Seatalk1, Seatalkng, and Seatalkhs.
Seatalk/Seatalk1 is a NMEA0183 interface which in 2005 was the principal data stream for the devices Sea Ray used.
Seatalkng is essentially NMEA2000 data with the Raymarine propriety cabling.
Seatalkhs is Raymarine's propriety Ethernet high speed network.
The Mercury Smartcraft data stream (your boat's engines) is to the J1939 standard.
J1939 data can be converted to NMEA2000 and provided on a NMEA2000 network with a converter device.
If you have a Vesselview 4 or 7 then a NMEA 2000 data conversion is provided with the Smartcraft network.
Your boat would need to have a NMEA2000 backbone installed.
You would then require an adapter to interface Seatalkng to NMEA2000.
Now the down side - I understand that the E120 will not allow the simultaneous use of Seatalk/Seatalk1 (NMEA0183) and Seatalkng (NEMA2000).

So, essentially, if you had engine data before there has been a substantial upgrade to your boat and an answer is much more complex with much more information required.

ttmott, thanks for taking the time and explaining this.

So I bought the boat at the end of last year and there was a lot going on..so I don’t know if it was working or not. I’ve reach out to the guy I bought it from.

It’s not super critical to me. I use smartcraft(VV4) to monitor anyways. I’m just one of those guys that if it’s on the boat it should work, regardless if I use it.

Again, thank you!
