I went to my local lowes to pick some dryrid up and all they had was the refills which just looked like a bag of kitty litter type stuff. I never used this product so im not sure what is in the buckets I seen online,Is that just what it is a little pail and this kitty litter stuff inside the bucket? The reason why I ask is because they were out of the buckets and only had the Refill bags,So if thats all it is I could just get the refills and pour them into my own buckets and place them around my boat,Or is there more to them than that?
Also is it a good idea to put them in the engine compartment?
I was going to put one up in the v berth,1 in the mid boat, 1 in the aft cabin, and maybe 1 on each side of the engine?

The refills are OK but you need to put them in a basket and the basket in a container (off the bottom) to drain properly. The crystals absorb the moisture. I see no reason why you cannot also put one in the engine compartment. If you need the whole assembly you can buy them at many different stores (marine, RV, Bed bath and Beyond, etc.)
