has anyone recently checked on dry stacking rates at the various marinas on Lake Norman?...we will likely convert from a wet slip to dry stacking next year and was wondering which marinas had the best prices....i can do the reserch myself but thought i would ask here first to see if anyone has recently looked into this...

A few years ago when I was looking Skippers (Troutman) had the best deal for me. Location, Price and in and outs. Some marinas limit you to 1 in and out per day. Then there is a charge after that. I said I get 365 launches and they said "No you get one per day". Skippers also has racks to clean and work on your boat. They also have a mechanic on site that I hear from my old dock mates is pretty good. I don't know him personally though. Skippers also has courtesy slips for rack users. Can you tell I liked the place?

You can also look at the Morningside Marina on the south end. I have spoken with them but not stayed there. I think my boat is docked there now with her new owners.

thanks.....Skippers sounds good but that is a LONG way for me to go since i live south of the lake in Lancaster, SC.......i actually like the area i am in now...the northern end of the lake seems to be much less busy than the southern end....this gives us good water to boat in.....there is the 'Boat Rack' and 'Mountain Creek Marina' and 'Lake Norman Marina' in this area....i'll just have to check them out and see what they have to offer....would be nice to be able to work on the boat myself and clean it when i want and not have to take it off site (home to Lancaster) to do so.....i have a trailer and truck so they would just have to set the boat on the trailer for me when i wanted to work on it or clean it....

Time wise I'll bet Skipper's shorter than any other Marina on the north side. It is only 2.5mi. off the exit on 77. No 16 or 150 traffic.

Don't know about Mtn. Creek. The other 2 are the ones I was referring to.

I used to stack at Westport and the working folks are first class......however the owner is @&$/....
The owner managed to piss someone off at the DOT and they stopped them from crossing the road with the fork trucks. So....they have to get your boat down, put it on a trailer, cross the road, use the fork truck to put your boat in the water, then reverse the process to put your boat away. You can't tell me they aren't damaging boats with all that handling.

Lake Norman marina in my experience are not so friendly. I went there to pump out my holding tank, and noone would help me. One of the wet slip guys told me where the pump station was, and to go use it. So I headed in that direction....then this guy comes over yelling at me from the shore, that if I try to use it he will call the police. Not sure what that was all about, but I left instead of having a confrontation. That's my experience with them.

Skippers seems to be friendly and overall a nice place. It's a smaller marina so they seem to not be so stressed out. If you get to your marina now by driving up hwy 77, Skippers wouldn't be any longer a drive for you, just different.

Don't have any pricing for you because it's been years since I did the stack thing. Sorry about that.

I'm on the waiting list for a wet slip at Midway Marina myself. I know, the economy must be getting better! A waiting list! haha

I have dry stacked at Kings Point, Westport and River City. Kings Point in Cornelius is by far the best facility. It's also the easiest to get to from I77. When I bought my 240SD there was a waiting list at every marina on the the lake. When the economy hit the skids they were all offering move in discounts. Timing is everything.

thanks for the replies....one reason i like the area we are in now is the easy driving on Hwy 16 and the western side of Hwy 150.....the I77 traffic can be bad, especially when you hit the area where it crosses the lake and all the way into the Mooresville area.....

luckily we are in no big hurry so we have time to look around...maybe some opportunities for stacking will come around in the winter for the marinas that may be full now....

one thing i will miss by stacking is the ability to keep my batteries fully charged while not being used....i have two new, healthy batteries now so it should not be a problem as long as we don't let the boat sit unused for several weeks.....i will likely invest in a good portable battery jump pack if/when we start stacking and just make it a practice to take it with us each time we use the boat in case the batteries are weak.....

Glad you posted this. I am thinking of move that way in a couple of years now that both my boys and their families are living there. This info is good.
thanks,
Joe

I'm in the Crown Harbor Drystorage and it runs $8.75 per foot / per month. I am curious on pricing across the lake as well as service levels. So far I am happy with CH. Hours are M-F 9:00 - 6:00 and S-S 9:00 - 8:00. I would like to see later hours on Friday. There is room on the fingers at the drop in point to dock if you come in after they close. They will pick you out the next morning. They offer detail services and have racks to put you on for maintainence.

Thing is, I can't beat the convenience. I can txt the lift driver and be boating inside of 15 minutes from my house. (and that includes letting the blower run for 4 minutes!) :smt038

Crown Harbor neighborhood residents get priority but it seems that there are always a few open racks.

Exit 28 right off I-77.

Thanks
