I have another thread posted out here about servicing the drive unit - http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24711

After getting some great pointers on there I decided to move forward and start doing this myself. My first step is that I would like to build a drive stand.

Here are a few pictures a found while searching.

It looks like to use these stands you must remove the prop to reinstall the drive unit. I would like to avoid that.

I was thinking about making a stand where the sides would pivot and come up then under the drive unit. When you were done reinstalling you could fold the sides down, and out of the way out of the prop, then roll the stand out.

I have seen the stands where the drive unit rests on the skeg, but I would rather have a complete stand.

Any thoughts??

I think the wood one will work ok and be cheap. My second thought is to do it out of sched. 40 Pvc Pipe since I don't have access to a welder. I think if you get some pvc and reinforce it with verticle support columns it would also be lightweingt and strong enough! Design it like the welded one in your pics. my $.02

I agree with the post about have a pro do it and watch, learn.
I dont think you need a stand. Stands are mostly for rebuilding the outdrive itself. Hang it to store with tiedown straps.
Also, remove the prop first and install last.
