I am in the process of replacing my shift actuator and I noticed a moderate amount (maybe 3 oz) of drive lube in the hull under my starboard engine. I can't tell where it is coming from. Any thoughts? Does this need urgent attention?

Bravo 3's?

If so, it's fairly common for leaks to occur in and around the overflow container. The only urgent attention is to make sure you top off (to the fill line) the overflow container.

Common leak points are the cap (gasket) and the hose that is plugged in the bottom.

Check the gear lube bottle top/front of engine and the hose that runs from the bottle back to the transom assymbly. The cap on the bottle can leak if it is overfilled or if the rubber gasket is missing from the cap. Also, the hose has a quick disconnect where it connects to the fitting that passes it through the transom. Those are the likely places - if not then check around the transom assembly where the input shaft comes through, if the front seal on the drive is leaking then gear lube will get into the bellows and eventually into the bilge, but you would be low on gear lube because it would have to leak a lot to fill the bellows and then start spilling into the bilge. Or, whoever changed the gear lube last just spilled some, doesn't take much to make a mess. If you can't find the source of any leak, then I would start monitoring the gear lube usage.

Thank you. I'm glad it doesn't sound serious. I will check those areas. The level was fine so it is not leaking large amounts. It is a bummer because I just detailed my engine bay.
