Just picked up my 1988 250 FC at the very end of last season, just in time to take it out once then have it winterized. A few days ago, after a lube job, oil change, and a good cleaning, i took it out for the first time of the year.
First problem: Shift interrupter switch not working. Hopefully an easy fix.
Next problem: I opened up the throttle just long enough to watch the tach hit 5000 rpms without much effort. I believe the stock prop was a 15.25 x 15p. The prop on the boat now has 15P stamped on it but no diameter. The best I can tell with a tape measure is that the prop has a diameter of about 14.5" at best. I would just go get the right prop, but there only seems to be an inch of clearance at most right now between the tip of the prop blade and the bottom of the cavitation(?) plate on the lower. Does this sound correct? Shouldn't I be able to fit a 16 x 16 prop on this engine/drive (350/alphaI) without any problems?
