:smt100Ok so i about to drill holes for davits, should i drill a larger hole than needed fill with resin and let dry? Then drill my davit holes through that?
or
Should i be ok drilling straight through the swim, and just put bolts and large washers in?
I have a 29,and its a 10' 75lb dingy .
Would marine adesive and sealent be ok to use to fill the hole ?
This is my first attempt at drilling a hole in a boat ....:smt100

I just installed my brackets last weekend and used a silicone sealant in each hole, a little messy though but nobody's looking under the swim platform. Also used 1” ss washers. It was nerve racking drilling the first holes in the boat.:smt101

just mounted mine yesterday, drilled through the platform and used a silicone sealant in each hole w/s.s. washers sealed top and bottom of the bolts i cant see any water penetraiting the glass at all.

I'm putting my swim platform on today so lots of holes in the transom. I plan on sealing the holes with epoxy before putting the bolts in.
On the bolts I'll use 3M 5200 to seal them.
Leave the silicone for the bath tub, you want to use something that is designed for the marine enviornment.

I thought we were all playing in big bath tubs.:smt038 I think the boat will wear out before that silicone.

I overdrilled the holes slightly, used a pipe cleaner soaked in epoxy to seal the wood core, after it cured installed the davit bases with sealant.

I'm for Sea Dog. When I installed my Hurley davits I overdrilled, epoxied, re-drilled and then finished the job with 5200 in the cavity above the extra large SS washers & locknuts under the platform. Before I started I actually called SR and they told me that there was a synthetic core - NOT SO - when I drilled the first missionary holes there was balsa wood dust floating in the water beneath the platform.

I'm glad that I did this job the right way - no future worries about wet core in the platform!

i did use marine silicone sealant which states to use for thru hull fittings , and when i drilled the platform there was no plywood, so sealing the top, inside, and bottom of the holes doesnt worry me, as for 5200 if i ever wanted to remove the weaver quik kit, i think 5200 would do more damage to the fiberglass.
