I am contemplating drilling a hole or two in the stern table base that is mounted in the floor above my fuel tank (obviously removing the base prior to drilling to avoid damaging the tank). This is to provide a drain for the base as it seems to 'collect' water. Has anyone done this? Any pros/cons? The only thing I can see is that the hole will drain on top of the fuel sending unit. This could cause rust/damage. One thought is to add something to 'divert' the water via a rubber tube.

I think it holds less then a cup of water, us a towel and soak it up, what is your concern with a little water there?

I agree that your approach is an overkill. Use a sponge or a towel to keep it dry. If you don't use the table so much try to find a cap for the base.

I have children and they tend to drop food in places where they shouldn't (ie this hole). When water mixes with a food, ugly things can happen. Bottom line, it's easier to pick a dry cheeto out of the hole....

Forget about drilling the hole in the base, just get rid of the kids until they know how to boat better.:smt043:lol: Just kidding, been there and done that and have the shirt to prove it. With that said I'm soon to be a granddad so it looks like I'll be doing it all over again.:smt100

Yep, wipe it up and don't expose the more important gear below to uneccesary wear or corrosion.
Cheetos are banned from my boat(of course the Admiral bring the contraband aboard and shares them with the twins) but if aboard are eaten off the boat. Orange fingers touching everything is not my idea of relaxed boating and what otherwise turns into a bright ORANGE version of 3M's 5200 when wet.

Funny you should mention getting rid of the kids. Last night we went out for some fun after work. We set anchor at our favorite area (~3' of water) and hung out. The kids were swimming and having fun and the adults were doing what adults do (trying to relax). Well, out of the blue I hear a loud thwap from the swim platform. I turn around to see a baseball sized mud/clay ball that my oldest daughter threw. She was also covered from head to toe in the stuff and she looked like she had a day at the spa (mud therapy). My mouth replied with some very angry words & explicatives as my heart skipped a beat or 20.

Love my kids, but I will never understand why they do stupid crap like that! Oh well, college is only 5 years away and soon I will be saying 'remember when'....well maybe not....

I will look into a cap....good idea!

It's nice to know that my kids aren't the only ones that do stupid things. Unfortunately, college is still over 10 years away for my oldest.

Uhhh... I hate to tell you guys, but in college, they will learn to do even dumber stuff from all of their new friends...

There is no escaping stupidity from kids.

College kids never do anything stupid. Remember, they know everything....at least that's what I thought during my college days.

But looking back, I did have a lot of fun in college. I learned so many fun drinking games, I learned how to stand on top of a keg of beer and drink upside down and I met lots of interesting people. I remember one time at a bar I drank two beers out of a beer bong that was 2 stories up. WOW did that suck!

Now that I am approaching middle age, I still do some stupid things but they are far more costly. Like the time I forgot to lock my captains chair and it swivled and engaged the trim down switch while I was towing the boat....thanks again skeg guard for making a product that fixes stupid mistakes....
