Doug "Go Aweigh To" in the hospital

Thank you Todd for keeping us UTD and everyone else for wishing Doug back to full strength.... Hang in there Doug !!

Hey everyone... got home this AM. Just finished reading the notes and PM's. Thanks to all keeping Lea/Todd busy (wink).

Here is a quick snap shot of what happen:

Took my Doc's recommendation to have my prostate checked based on elevated PSA levels. He said it was relatively simple and painless.

Took antibiotics day before, day of and day after for infection.

Almost four days later find out that the e-coli strain (which everyone has in their system) is a specific one that 1/100 people may have and the antibiotics I took before, during and after the procedure were totally ineffective.

My temps spiked to a little over 106 for three hours. Got to the point of delirium and according to ICU, pretty close to not boating again... or breathing...

Took 48 hours of culture testing antibiotics on my blood to find the best killer of my bug. Only two are currently available. One is IV only and one is IV, shots, or pill form. The docs put me on the IV drip (which, because it is so poisonous to the liver and kidney, that I can only get one bottle per day). Got that yesterday and it completely shut down the temp spikes and had my first night of sleep since Friday. Well, actually 3+ hours of sleep.

Good news is the docs think that the best option for me right now is to go with pills through the next week and go in to ER if any temps spike during that time. If it does, then I get the IV type antibiotic which is highly toxic and will be required to be admitted back in the hospital throughout that regime.

So, all is well. I'm home, my prostrate is still totally ticked off at me and letting me know by giving me mere seconds to make it to the head... I'm watching the Olympics (the TV in the hospital was blurry). Nice to see the scores and the water polo ball.

Anyway, thanks for the well wishes and positive thoughts. I'm hoping the next week turns out great and the news about my biop in the next 8-9 days goes well too.

PS, good news is I lost over 20 pounds in four days. Don't want to do it that way again..ever...

gredmer:
Will find out about the prostate in 8-9 days...

BTW, my BL is a US Marine product too... funny guys... yes, I did smile reading about the Bayliner hits... :smt101

You guys really don't want to know what we call SeaRays...:wow:

Overall the good news is you guys pick on the boat, not the owner, (well in most cases)...

Doug...........we missed you around here. I hope you continue to get better. Oh and Todd said he was going to wash and wax your boat for you too while you are laid up.:wow:

Dave

Tell Doug we miss him and are looking forward to having him back on CSR. Tell Lea that we are all .............. going to wash and wax your boat for you too while you are laid up.:wow:

Dave

Uh huh, two can play at this.

Doug,
Dave called and said he's on his way.

And I wouldn't trust Gary with the buffer.....he'll bleed all over your boat.

See, I told ya so.....106 deg F, man that will almost cook a pumpkin (brain)....you were on your way to makin punkin pie ole boy!
Glad your home, no more spikin unless it is a mixed drink a few weeks down the road...

:thumbsup:Welcome home, glad you're getting better. Just think of the bright side of things.

1. You lost them extra pounds you were carrying around.
2. You're going to get a free boat wash & wax.
3. Admiral will treat you like a king for a couple day.
4. You're post count on the board is going to go up since you can't do anything else.
5. I'm sure there is more just can't think all, some of the other will have to add to the list.
:lol::smt043:lol:

Now that your going to get better, I can tell you that my father passed away a few years ago from sepsis. He went in for a test on his heart and they put a catheter in an artery down by his groin and 3 days later we were arranging his funeral due to the infection... he was a big boat fan and never got to see our 480...

Glad you got better...

Now back to discussing why Sea Rays are better than Baywhiners.

Gary, I am so sorry for the loss of you father. That has to be devastating.

Thanks again to all you guys and gals. Support meant/means a lot. I'll gladly toast a beer or two to anyone. Just not today...

Got home around 11, checked emails and posted my thanks to you all, had lunch, unhooked the trailer from the truck for a friend to use the truck, ate a sandwich, made my 7th? bathroom run, took a short one hour nap in the sunshine with the dog at my side, woke up in shade, took a nap upstairs in bed for three hours with the dog at my side (he even stayed through his normal dinner time by two hours), woke, fed the dog, had dinner and now I'm sitting up doing this stuff... and I'm totally beat... after all that sleep...

I have a much different attitude toward those that get ecoli... the Fred Meyer beef scare being high in my thoughts right now and what those folks are going through. I think it will make me think thrice about open salad bars, etc.

Looking forward to being back in the saddle again. Doug;}

Baywhiner???? that's a good one...

Doug, there are easier ways to lose 20 lbs, although they might not work as fast!! Glad you are home and on the rebound. Keep it up and you'll be back on the boat very soon.

So...errrrr...is your pecker going to work after this?

I think I might rather have died if the little guy wasnt going to be functional anymore.

Welcome back, Doug. I'm glad things worked out well for you, and at the same time, very sorry to hear about Gary's dad. That has to be devastating. I look forward to every visit from my parents, the next one this Oct. My Dad has survived a heart attack, a quadruple bipass, and 50 years of marriage. He'll probably outlive me.
