Doug "Go Aweigh To" in the hospital

Update from Lea last night around 10PM

Tonight I'm happy to report that Doug's temp hasn't gone over 100 today. He's still on fever reducers tho. They had four different antibiotics flowing this AM. Still no report on the cultures, so no id of the bacteria yet unfortunately so they can then isolate the appropriate antibiotic and first kill the culture then administer it via IV.
Doug is out of ICU and in the ward, comfortable but agitated as Doug can get. Wants to come home, You're right Randy... if/when he does he will either have nurse come to house or go into hospital for IV input for some time. As long as he remains stable it would be a great alternative, but he has to remain stable for at least 24 hours first.
There's a lot to the power of prayer and we both thank you all from our hearts for your concern and uplifting messages. Doug will smile when he reads your messages much like I am doing.. Thanks
Bless you all. Nite
Lea

Great news, I hope he continues to improve.

GREAT news!!!! Hurry up and get well. We can't give you a hard time about your bayliner while you are sick. You know it is just killing Gary.(Grin)

Hi Everyone, Gee you all are just terrific!!!! such a rally and such thought going his way, and mine. Thank you thankyou..
It was great yesterday to be able to have a positive report after a traumatic weekend with toxic blood bacterial poisoning. His fever which was spiking at 106 had been behaving itself most the day yesterday Only went up to under 100 during the day until the middle of the night when it once again spiked to 102. They are still working on the cultures and so far no report yet except to say that one of the antibiotics administered was useless and it was resilient to it. Said if they get confirmation on the strain and get the right antibiotic going he can probably come home with either a nurse’s visit for IV insert of he’ll go back in daily for the treatment. He’s hoping but not sure how realistic it is that he will be coming home soon. Of course he's more than anxious to get out of that place. We’ll see when he is completely stable for at least 24 hrs.
Thank you all for your concerns and messages. I'm blown away and I apologize for not responding individually to your posts but I'm beat! Hopefully his condition is out of the critical life threatening situation he was in. I'm off to the hospital, and who knows who might be reading these soon or following me home.

Again the strength passed on is being felt and thank you all.
Always, Lea

PS. Beware computer on it's way, if he can get connected he'll be back soon
Super, I know I speak for everyone to say that it would be great to see him back online.

Doug,

I hope your pp and general health get better. Good luck...

A steady diet of IV's suck! That's just no way to lose weight....

Sounds like you're rounding the bend though....hang in there and get home soon!

Doug and Lea,

I'm also a newer member and certainly haven't made a name for myself here yet. I don't recall corresponding with you directly, but reading through these posts tells me that you both have made quite a mark on the Sea Ray community.

My wife and I will pray for you both. Get well soon!!!

Just tuned in for the first time since Saturday morning. Get well, be strong, think positively. We'll continue to send our prayers for your swift recovery.

None of this would have happened if he had a Sea Ray

Although that may be true.

Here's what we know tonight.
It's times like this that really make a difference knowing true friends that care and just cyberbuds. Your messages have kept me going and truly given me strength these past few
days.. Thank you I wish I had the stamina right now to answer every post but I don't. Know however that we are grateful for your concern and messages. Bless your hearts for keeping us in you thoughts.. Hopefully his condition is out of the critical life threatening situation he was in a few times this week.
I'm wasted but know I'm thinking of all of you..

His fever which was spiking at 106 and could have taken him from me, had
been behaving itself most the day yesterday until the middle of the
night when it once again spiked to 102. (so much for going home) Only
went up to under 100 during the day. They are still working on the
cultures ruling other possibilities out, and so far they report that
the e-coli bacteria he got into his bloodstream from the procedure on
Friday is somewhat of a "Super Bug". There is only one antibiotic that
will kill it (according to the cultures) and if he has a resistance to this drug, well trouble...
They have given him doses this afternoon so far and it's hopeful..
(some bacteria build up immunities to or are resistant to antibiotics
(because they are used so readily for just about any ailment) and they
always try to administer the least strongest so there is a possibility
of moving up strength if necessary. These bugs are freightening and it's hard to imagine you have something in your own body that can kill you. (personally I think there possibly was a mistake made at the procedure, dirty instrument or whatnot... but something is wrong, the Urologist won't look either Doug or I in the eye when he discusses the result, body language
speaks for itself) If they get confirmation that the med is working
on the strain and get the right antibiotic going he can probably come
home with a nurse's visit for IV inserts every day of he'll go back in
daily once or twice for the treatment for at least the next two weeks.
Yesterday alone he was pumped with 14 different antibiotic drips, lord
knows how many the day before in ICU. He's still not completely stable but feeling better.

Thank you from my heart friends, Lea

I spoke to Doug on the phone tonight and it was good to hear his voice and am very glad that he is coming around. Regardless of the reason for these episodes, I told him that theres no hurry but to get well and take care.

Lea, again, hang in there and know that we're all ready if you need anything.......anything.

That sounds good, hang in there and keep getting better, we are thinking of you in the Southeast. Get well soon.

I got a Text Message from Doug at 5:53AM this morning(so he must be getting back to normal). He says they have figured out which antibiotic he needs and will be going home today. Apparently he will have to continue heavy doses of antibiotics for some time, but he's out of the woods and hopefully feeling "Normal" as he can get soon.

Very good news.

Outstanding news!! I'm so glad to hear Doug's on the road to recovery.
Thanks so much Todd for keeping us informed. (and of course to Lea for allowing you to)

While Doug may be raising nothing stronger that an IV bottle anytime soon, we can all raise a frosty in salute to him and his wonderful Admiral. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

Cheers,

Bill
