After seeing the dog and lifejackets thread, I was wondering…what about them going #1 and #2. Do you pull over every couple of hours to let them off…if on hook/overnight what do you do? I have a 70 pound standard poodle that loves water…loves to drink water and has to get rid of it often.

Well in hte spirit of the lifejacket ours are trained to go #1 in the water while floating in the lifejacket. As for #2 we're usually not away from a Marina for more than 8 or 9 hours at a time so they hold it until then. In the case of being on the hook and they need to go we swim them to land and they take care of business there.

Ditto. :)

We have a few ankle biters owners at the marina. That trained their dogs to poop off the swim platform. :wow:.

While I've heard of dogs doing their thing in the water we treat them the same way on the boat as we do at home......take them to shore every couple of hours. Usually, shore is never more than a couple hundred feet away.

That would be my question also...how do you know they peed in the water? Anyone try this?

I am ashamed to admit, the wife bought one of these, one of our shepherds uses it, the other waits for a dinghy ride/fuel stop

It's amazing how long my dog can hold it! If she is being watched she doesn't like to go #2...

Our dog has an iron bladder but will pee on the swim platform in an emergency. As for # 2. He holds it till we get to shore.

How do you train a dog to pee in the water? And further, how do you know that said dog has peed in the water? Does he give a sigh of relief and a serene expression on his face? I'm struggling with this one, but keeping an open mind.

As for pooping off the platform.....that's just what I want to see float by as I am dangling my feet in the water enjoying a beer. Tell those lazy bastages to take their yappers to the dog walk.

Once you see a dog taking a piss in the water while floating in their life jackets you'll know. It's hard to explain but yes there is some sense of relief on there face.

Our Papillion goes pee on a piddle pad and Pooh on the platform. She picks it up with the scented Pooh bags and is put in our cockpit trash can.The platform gets washed off with the transom shower. The deal was if she wanted a dog she had to deal with it! All is good.....and I don't have to take the dog ashore:smt038

Piddle pads? That reminds me when we went on our first boat trip after we got our female Golden 6 years ago and the damn dog went into heat 2 days before we left. Someone told me that Petsmart sold feminine products for female dogs in heat. I went in and asked them if they had "dog tampons"... I guess I should have asked for "napkins"... FYI... they carry dog napkins but not dog tampons.

Dog Tampons, are you kidding me, man there is something wrong with you. LMAO

Seriously... they make these female dog-in-heat-pants that have a built in "napkin"... Has a hole for the tail and all... I just used the wrong word when trying to explain to them what I wanted...

Yep, I unfortunately have been to the store to purchase those as well. Just never knew someone that wanted doggy tampons, I agree that was the funniest post in many, many days around here.
