Does your bowrider come equipped with a wind tunnel, too???

On my 1999 190 BR, when travelling at higher speeds, the wind comes through the open bow and under the windshield, much to the dismay of anyone sitting in the middle of the rear bench. I'm surprised that Sea Ray didn't engineer in a small retractable/removal door or canvas that fills in the void to eliminate what I call W.T.S.(Wind Tunnel Syndrome). :smt101

I'm sure most of you BR people know what I'm talking about, and I'm wondering if any of you have rigged up any kind of setup to deal with this small annoyance. I was thinking of getting ahold of a chunk of Sunbrella that matches my bow/cockpit cover, and installing some SS snaps for easy install and removal.

Any thoughts or further ideas?

Yep, I know exactly what you are talking baout with that wind. My '99 210BR has a little door on the starboard side that opens up and closes that area off completly, even has a SS latch to hold it in place. I think a peice of canvas would work just fine. The door was standard on the 210 BRs.

The sundeck series uses the helm storage door as a weather door as well in the open position it closes off the front and the wind. You could also use your tauno cover while underway.

During the middle of summer that middle seat behind the opening is the cat bird seat, both breeze and sun at the same time. Plus someone else doing the driving.... :smt038

You may be able to make one out of Starboard if you are handy.

But I know exactly what you mean. My 210 Sundeck had no door and that area was like a wind tunnel too. But my 240 Sundeck had the ability to close it off and it was a feature we used many many times.

and they can check your but out all day long!

Have your local canvas shop fashion a barrier out of double-thick vinyl or canvas and install two snaps on the lower sides of the walk-through and two on the top to match snaps in the barrier. I had this on my old bowrider and it worked great.

I snap my canvas bow cover in place when it is cold to avoid the wind. When it is warm I usually run with the windshield open.

Funny you mention this WTS. We noticed it really for the first time on our last trip of the year. It was early November and it got to 70 degrees. We took the boat out and into the Chesapeake...mirror calm. But that 70 was misleading as the water was getting colder. My kids ended up laying under the passenger glovebox area, beneath my wifes feet, covered in a beach towel. We ended up stuffing a couple of those rectangular throwable life preservers in that area, which really cut off the wind and felt a ton better.

I've since thought about making a small thin foldable door, covered in epoxy and painted white, hinged to the side.

Or, simply get a bow cover. When the wind is a problem, no one wants to sit up there anyway. The kids might have more fun under it anyway... :)

Yup. From what I've seen, WTS comes standard on just about any open bow boat. It's a blessing on hot days. On cold days, the bow cover goes on.

Yeah, I thought about using the bow cover to block it, but I'd prefer to rig something up instead of relying on just the cover. I'll keep you posted and give you all an update once I figure something out.

I would think a swing door would get in the way since the width is already pretty limited. Maybe a pocket door :smt017 Anyway, here in FL I would only use it about twice a year if that.

The 220 Select uses the helm storage door as well. It doesn't interfere with anything we try to store in there as it all sits fairly tight while underway. I would have preferred a smaller, thinner layered door that could stay closed just to make it 'look nice'. But we usually have the door closed anyways.

You just had to throw that jab in there, didn't you?

The 240 Select, the better looking boat, has the same door setup as the sundeck. Pull that door open and secure it and most of the wind is block out . Works very well.
