Does the 12V Wire Have Power?

Have a curtesy light that blew out.
Was originally halogen. Looks like it singed the carpet under it, and melted the plastic housing.

Tried to replace the entire light, but with an LED.
Did not light up.

Any way to see if there is power from the wires?
Or any other suggestions as to why the LED won't work?
I did check another light- same.

LEDs are polarity specific. Try turning it around if you can,. If not reverse the wires.

No, LEDs just dont light when reversed. But I would check the circuits with a volt meter first.
