I just registered over the weekend and have lots of questions!

I have never had a large boat with a hot and cold shower in the head. Two of the boats that I'm currently thinking about are the 320 and 340 Sundancer.

Does anyone shower in a wet head? Do you find it acceptable?

Thanks,

Jim

A huge question is "how big a feller are ya"? (A little Leroy Mercer humor.) In those boats most people can take a shower, many of my friends do regularly even with marina showers available. My previous 270 was very small for a 6'2" guy. The real pain is drying everything after.

We have a 1988 340 Sundancer and shower in ours and it’s fine. In hind sight, though, it’s really the only thing I would change about our boat. The next boat I get will have a separate shower. It’s not terrible to use, just messier to clean up.

I love showering on my 340SDA and we have plenty of room. Even the towels we hang on the far side will stay dry if you take a little care. The part I don't love is the clean up. To make this easier we use a water blade to squeegee the walls and a sham wow towel to finish off. At least our head stays very clean.

Generally we group our showers at the end of the day so there is only one wipe down. Otherwise a rinse of on the transom during the day is sufficient. It's also preferred to do this if we have been on the beach with sand. I don't like getting sand into the shower or the sump pump.

We have two heads, one wet and one with a fully enclosed shower.

We never shower in the wet head....

I love my shower, (and the transom shower as well), I very rarely clean up, I just let it dry on its own, after all, it is just fresh water, it’s not going to hurt anything. I leave the toilet cover down so the seat doesn’t get wet. I might wipe the counter down. I’m 6’1, but only weigh 170, so I don’t take up much space. We have used ours for getting ready for concerts, dinner, etc, the only issue we have is the need for a mirror that you can see when standing up. Only one available on my 320 is in the bathroom. We are going to try and find something we can install in the cabin, just have no idea where yet. We don’t watch TV, so we might remove the bulkhead TV and install it there.

I boat in fresh water so I either suds up while swimming or use the transom shower if I'm going to spend the night on the hook or before heading to lunch/dinner on the water. Otherwise use the marina shower once everything is cleaned up and put away.

When I had a 340 DA I used it constantly. I'm 6'0 and loved showering on the boat for the convenience of not walking to the marina showers and/or dealing with a public shower. I simply wiped down with a super shammy. No biggie. By the way if it's in your budget....go for the 340 over the 320. You'll be happy you did.

We showered in our 320 but the head was useless until it dries. We installed teak grate to help keep the floor dry which was a huge help.

What bothered me about the wet head in the 330DA was the curtain that covered the door. It was easy to dry off the walls, wipe the counter and floor etc., but that curtain was a PITA. I preferred just wearing a bathing suit and using the transom shower.

It’s one of the reasons I moved from the 340 to a 400....to get a better shower experience.

We showered in the marina almost exclusively when we had our 340. Or I’d use the transom shower when on the hook. The wet head took just enough prep and cleanup that we felt it was a bit of a hassle. Surely better than being stinky, however :)

There are worse things than using the wet head. Like, for example, not having a boat! Ha

Our previous 250 was cramped, but workable. Our 360 has the 'bat shower' plexiglas enclosure that keeps the rest of the head free of water. Works well for me. I'm a bit over 6'. With the A/C on it dries out pretty quickly.

We live on our 340 all summer and shower in the wet head every day. We dry the shower with a towel after finished. I think it’s a very user-friendly setup (I’d prefer a separate shower, of course). I’m 5’8” and my wife is smaller than me, but obviously the bigger a person is, the more confining the shower will be. One thing I’ve noticed is this: regularly showering in the boat keeps the shower sump in better shape because mold won’t build up in there. We clean the shower sump as needed (maybe monthly?).

Ours works very well and the head is always spotless and odor free. Takes maybe two minutes to wipe it down after showers. Some wet heads have better designs than others, so it gets down to the design. Our 370 Express was a pain to use because you needed to place a trash bag over the head to keep it from filling up with water. Then you always had a wet bag in the head that would start to smell after a while. With this boat, head stays fairly dry and picks up zero water. Paper towels make clean up easy.

Here is an example of a wet head that works well. The shower curtain completely isolates the shower "stall" from the tollet area area so the head does not fill up with water from showering. The shower area provides adequate space for a 6'3" person to shower. A strong exhaust vent sucks out humidity and a heat lamp overhead keeps you warm while the A/C operates so you can dry off without sweating too much. All in a compact space.

we use our head shower frequently.....i am 6'-1" and 215 lbs. and i have plenty of room to shower....i do a combination of sitting on the covered toilet and standing as needed....i use guided short burst of water from the sprayer as needed instead of letting the water run full time....our sprayer has an 'on-off' valve built into it and i just lay the sprayer in the sink when not being used...this conserves water, keeps the toilet from filling up with water, and contains the water somewhat from splattering all over the walls.....clean-up is easy by using a small squeegee to dry the water off the walls and floor and directing it into the floor drain and if needed a quick wipe down with a towel...we have either the AC or heat on in the cabin all the time so we just leave the head door open after a shower and it dries out quickly....

when it is warm weather i use a dock shower i installed while we are at the dock or i use the transom shower if we are on the hook....
