Documentation deletion

Their reasoning - because it's a huge PITA! Ha. They don't get paid extra to deal with the seven levels of paperwork hell that accompanies USCG documentation :)
Very likely the case. So, hard to blame them.

What are you talking about? We documented our Sea Ray that was undocumented to start and that was a pain because we had to chase a title through three states. But that shows the value of the process as an iron clad proof of ownership tool. The Sabre was a breeze.

Updated this morning, now reads "No pending work item(s)"

Which I read as them having finished the work on the deletion. We shall see.

Just sharing my own pain and frustration with getting a boat un-documented. Having a boat documented doesn't make it any less likely to be stolen, just less likely to be re-registered after being stolen? ha.

Now, when I bought mine last year, the PO had both a Michigan title and Certificate of Documentation. Not good.... But it wasn't difficult to deal with. No lien and I didn't finance. I turned in the title when I paid taxes and showed them it was also documented. They made a couple of phone calls and that was it. I walked out with new registration stickers and lighter in the wallet from paying sales tax. When I called USCG documentation, they asked if I wanted to expedite. I said no thinking I'd see it within a month. I emailed a few items. Never physically mailed anything and within a couple of days I was told they had everything needed and had it in the queue. About 5 months later... I had the physical Certificate.
The other "issue" was the # is no where to be found on the boat. I'll be fixing that once I get up here. I'll just get 3" number/letter stickers from West Marine and cover them with some fiberglass mat and resin.

My story was a nightmare too. Our seller was a bit shady but we were set on the boat, so I pushed forward

turns out the guy I was buying it from got duped into one of those documentation companies for $300 but that company basically sat on the docs for 8 months and never did anything, so the boat was still documented in the previous owner to them.

Luckily they were still friendly with the previous couple and we were able to get a notarized transfer doc and uscg bill of sale to get it going into my name.

after all that it was still a 6 month wait (Covid) for the docs to get completed. It was an anxious 6 months because I never felt like it was really ours until it showed up. Huge relief when it did, obviously.

I’m happy we have no lien on the boat and if we ever were to sell it I should have no issue signing over the docs to the buyers.

Believe it or not, I sent required paperwork to USCG (National vessel documentation center) on March 14th requesting to delete documentation. I received the official "proof of deletion" letter back (via us mail) on March 31st. I am pleasantly surprised as I was bracing for months of waiting.

It’s looking like similar for our case. Pleasantly surprised. For sure.

The saga continues. Turns out the dipshit owner;sorry if you happen to be reading this) DOES have a lien on the vessel in question. So the deletion isn’t happening.
So, either we go with different financing or do the whole deal in cash. I hate people.
