So one of my docking lights burned out with about 2 hours total use over 2 seasons. It is a MR16 halogen bulb. I assume someone touched the bulb during installation causing premature death. Looking at replacements. Can go with another halogen, or for a few $$ more can use an led. Problem is the leds are all rated for 12v, and when I ask the manufacturer they say running at 14.6v while the engine is on will over voltage them, causing earlier death. But, they won’t say if earlier is 10000 hrs instead of 20000 or 10 minutes.

Anyone have any history with 12v led over voltage and life expectancy changes?

I guess this would be comparable...I replaced every halogen bulb in my boat except the navigation lights with LEDs. All are 12v and my batteries are always over 13 volts....Never had a problem....

Yes, definitely comparable. Any MR16 bulbs in the mix specifically?

Same here, Every bulb in my boat is LED never had a problem.

You would most likely have to get 19 volts or above to cause any damage to those LEDs. But if you do that, you will have a lot of way more expensive items to replace. Changed my entire 2004 240DA to LED last summer. They run cooler, are brighter and my batteries don't go dead overnight. You will be fine with those.

Just had to replace both the docking lights on my 2006 220 Sundeck. I priced the OEM Halogen 50W bulbs from my local Sea Ray deaer @ 17 each. I really wanted to replace with LED equivalent bulbs so I did some research and found LED replacements @ my local Home Depot (see link below) for $15.88 for a pack of 3 bulbs!!. Just installed and they fit and work perfect!! Thought I would share in case other are in need.

Those are the same ones I decided on in Feb and appear to work fine. I will post back if they die a young death.
