Docking edicate?

I too feel your pain with the rowdy dock neighbors. Not so much on my dock as on the transient docks we have used. Makes me like our Marina even more!

It never ceases to amaze me the hierarchy associated with boating. I just love boats and am always curious about other boats and always eager to help and learn something new. Even in the gentle South it can be amazing how self centered some people can be.

OldSkool, No problems I know its in all good fun.

As for the marina and boat storage here are some places you can call.

Years back we trailered our boat up to the lake. But in recent years we stored it at Shy Beaver. That in itself was paid by the gas we saved. As for the lake there are several public launches. Here is a map of the lake: http://raystown.org/assets/files/Raystown-Lake-Map.pdf

Here is another site I use to check water temp.

Hope this helps you out, Barry

So am I am assisting a fellow boater as he pulls into his slip. He rams the finger pier so hard, it sways a foot in either direction (no small feat there) and nearly launches me off the pier and into the drink. I'm thinking that he violated several counts of docking etiquette, first and foremost being don't bring the boat in so fast that you destroy stuff.

Did he at least offer you a beer afterwards?

Stored at Shy Beaver huh? Sorry I can't help it.

Jim you are correct with the other marina. The only problem is a waiting list.

Of course the rowdy, disrespectful and rude group all own Bayliners. Maybe look for a dock with mostly Searays if you want intelligent and pleasant people to associate with.

I called 7 points today. They have a waiting list but I don't need a slip until 2012 so I should be able to get one by then if I want it. I'll check the others tomorrow. The lady said that 7 points was pretty laid back. I'm good with that.

Thanks for the links.

I'm sure this was meant to be funny, but it is so true!!!

We've had annual slips in three different marinas over the past 5 years, with each marina getting progressively nicer and more expensive (not really though with the economic times). We noticed an obvious increase in Sea Ray boats each time we moved up. The Sea Ray owners always want to talk about their boats, their trips on the boat, their problems and repairs, their good times, etc. All around, we find them a much more friendly group of people who have a mutual respect. In the end, I think it all comes down to what you are willing to pay for a nice place/crowd.

Of course, there are plenty of great people with other brands but Sea Ray owners seem to flock together.

Heres a little follow up on my situation. I come to realize sometimes first impressions are not always a good thing.

Once we arrived at the dock this week there was a totally different atmosphere. What a great group of people. We noticed first hand when someone was leaving or coming in at the dock everyone worked together to shore up the boat.

Then came the food. As evening rolled around it became a neighborhood block party. Everyone sharing food. I mean great food fish, chicken, steaks and ribs. I also meet another Sea Ray owner and left him know about this site.

As for the loud music and dock lounging, there was none. I can't wait to the next weekend trip.

I guess as the old expression goes " Don't judge a book by its cover" is so true.

That's great to hear. I'll look you up when I get up there.
My time to be there has been pushed back to July. See you then.

That's exactly what I was thinking when this thread first started. You never know who's watching!

Its ok guys I have nothing to hide. I told several people on the dock what I wrote/said. I guess what I was tring to say "was this the normal dock etiquette?" It is ok to let people know how you feel. If someone were to get made at what I wrote then I do not need to be bothered by them. As for reading everyone elses comments pretty much everyone has experinced this .
Yea the Central PA, Raystown Lake post narrowed it down then the http://raystown.org/assets/files/Raystown-Lake-Map.pdf

link confirmed it. Ouch!
