I could have misunderstood what the tech stated, will know more today. Yes, closed cooling, 5.7 350 horizon. The engines were fine when I dropped it off on Sunday, July 15. I want to see the video to determine how long the engine was running unattended. Pretty sure the coolant over flowed at that point, but the belt might have stayed intact. Then, when engine was cranked to move the boat around this past Sunday, the alternator had frozen up, and the belt snapped. In this scenario, the raw water pump might not be frozen, but maybe chunks of the impeller are blocking the heat exchanger causing the overheating of the engine.i find it hard to believe the raw pump locked up still.. hard to turn by hand, maybe blocked or something wedged inside..
i can see the alternator locking up but due to coolant overflow? i guess you have a closed cooling system. you would have know prior it was overheating to have coolant overflow..i would suspect?
still fishy... i feel you pain
Yes, regarding ECM, left a message yesterday and asked this. They did explain what they saw on the video when they discovered the engine was not running correctly and I appreciate that, but I believe someone had to have known 3 weeks ago Monday that the coolant was overflowing while they flushed the engines. I have no choice but to allow them to at least lift and dunk it, I live an hour away, so not good if I have to show up then wait for them to splash boat. When I return, they are gone, so I have to trust them to do their job the following morning. I can start to flush my own engines, keep the keys on me, and provide a duplicate set to my mechanic.Mechanic should be able to look at the ECM data to determine if it did in fact overheat - assuming he has the Merc scan tools.
Don't take this the wrong way, because if flushing is a service your marina provides then they should have qualified people doing it, do it right and also fess up when something goes wrong. Accidents happen, things go wrong, but being up front and honest is most important - lie to me or hide something and I am done with you and any business we had. Me, I am just too particular, I keep my boat in dry storage also, but I rarely let the marina move my boat around when I am not there. I just don't trust hardly anyone. I like to be the "first on" and "last off".
