Dock drop offs

Well... I probably shouldn't have said that as I may have read the question wrong. I read the question as "Since docks are built on land that the dock owner doesn't own, can't we all use his dock and he can't do anything about it?"

It may not have been meant that way but I will confess that "entitlement" attitudes drive me over the edge... So I guess I'll admit I'm not a democrat. :smt001

Still like the way you think... it was my first reaction for the same reasons as well... even though it seems to have been a valid question.

Mike...Anything you want to know south of woods hole I can help you out with....I have been cruising cape cod and the islands for 10 plus years....

So, now I know Gary's weakness. I'll try to exploit that in future posts.

As to the dog in the dinghy.....my ugly bald head negates the cuteness of my dog....maybe I need two dogs....:smt017

Try a puppy with a cast on it's leg... (a prop unless you really have it in you to break a puppy's leg for your own personal gain....):smt043

As my username suggests, I'm a newbie, so here is another newbie question... I don't quite understand how a dingie solves the problem. You still have to tie up somewhere, or land on private land, or shuttle to and from a potentially private dock. Sure, you are there less time, and you have less draft, and you take up less room, but how does this solve the problem? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just trying to learn from more experienced forum members. A few of the popular docks around here have the problem of dingie overload, and there are signs posted against dingie parking on the docks. Thanks for the education.

Oh now we have a independent in the mix, causing trouble.:smt043

You must not know about the secret button on dingys. Push it and it folds up into a small wallet which you take with you.

Of course the merits of the dinghy solution would depend upon where you boat. Here on the Chesapeake, we wouldn’t think of leaving home without it. All of the towns we visit have anchorage fields with free dinghy docks and sure they can get crowded at times, but there always seems to be enough room.

When we stay at a marina, we still bring the dink along to go to a restaurant or beach area that is not convenient to wherever we are.

The point of a dingy is that you don't have to worry about a mooring spot -> you can anchor off shore and bring the Dingy in to shore. Lot easier to sneak a dingy in than it is to sneak a 290SD :)

In the Chesepeake, dingy's are a great thing. Where I boat in NJ. . not so much. The one place it would be good, however, is at "boaters beach". Going ashore there is good. . .but for me, anchoring means being in water too deep to wade through to shore. (although. . not sure I would dare leave a boat unattended at that madhouse)

In the NJ Barnegat Bay, there are dozens of great spots to spend the night on the hook. Spend the night on the hook with a dog just once and you will quickly appreciate the usefullness of a dinghy...especially at 11 PM or 5 AM......

Typical convoluted republican thinking... :) - probably would contract the work to build the dock to your best friend for 10x the going rate then charge the taxpayers for it.

There is enough of this GARBAGE on cable & network news, which is the place for it.

Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Mugwumps all have their flaws, issues and problems. Go somewhere else to post your political views.

Like garbage, but even worse.

That's from the urban dictionary Frank... showing your age.

Once you make a post and someone pokes fun at you, the rules state you can't go back and correct it. Now *my* post doesn't make sense.

Use your Christmas giftcards to buy a sense of humor...

Perhaps your ire should be directed at the person who ORIGINALLY made this a political discussion.
