Do you lock your cabin door?

There is no requirement in your insurance policy that you lock your boat or your house in order for coverage to be in place in the event of theft. Deductibles are supposed to discourage behaviour that increase the risk of loss. That said, I lock my boat if I will be away for an extended period. I keep a key in the cockpit in case I need to have some one access the boat when Im not there.

First year with this 280 in 2010 and I will lock her up. There is another good thread going on within the last 48 hours that is addressing visible alarms and deterrence’s. My goal is to get the kids to walk past her. This won’t stop the pro’s but even pro’s will look for easier targets.

My advice, lock her up and deter.

In addition to locking the cabin door do most of you remove the ignition keys from Main DC panel?

I keep a set of ignition keys in the cabin and take a set home. I replaced the lockset yesterday so I can lock her up (there was a spare in a drawer) but the key I use is a key I had on an old key ring. It's a modified house key and still opens the lock so I know they are not very secure. I am looking to keep someone shaking doors looking for an open one, kids, maybe a bum looking for a place to sleep (I notice that if you are carrying a bag or something and head for the gate right when someone is leaving they will hold the door for you. (Too polite in California!). I would like real keys for the lock or I will replace the lock again.

Yes I am at the Subase on the Thames

Hi JCSAM,

My wife and I were cruising past the sub base in July 2007, enroute to the marina up river in Norwich. Somehow we got between a big orange ship that was getting underway and the patrol boat on the other side of the ship. When the patrol boat finally got around the big orange ship it's skipper had some pretty choice words for me and vigorously escorted us past the base; my wife noted the size of his gun, she said it was big. I nearly s...t my pants but clearly understood the situation.

I was on the Grant, SSBN 631, home ported out of Groton; 83' - '89.

What do you do in the service?

Cheers
Jeff

When at the marina I do leave the keys in the ignition but turn them to the off position; I remove them if leaving her on the mooring or my dock, while I am away.

I am still looking for a lock for my boat. can/t seem to find one anywhere. 1990 350/370 searay E/C can anyone help. I have been looking since last year.

In the summer, during the week, when not at the boat I lock it, In the winter on the hard, shrinkwrapped, I leave unlocked, We just a few boats randsacked at the marina, I'd rather they take what they want then have spend $$$$$ to fix the door. Luckily I took everthing off as they have hit 9-10 marinas in the area. Bob
