Do I need a new starter?

I have a 5.0 LX V8 Alpha One and changed the oil on it a couple weeks ago. I pumped the old oil out and changed the filter. I replaced the filter and refilled the oil. I checked the dipstick and the oil level is full. Now, a week later when I go to turn it over, it starts to turn over then makes a loud noise and stops. The second time I go to turn it over, it starts just fine. Once the engine is hot, I turn it off and wait a few minutes and turn it back on and it starts up just fine. No loud bang. It only makes the loud bang when the engine is cold. Any suggestions?

I know it's difficult to describe sounds but "Loud bang" does not help much... Make sure the starter mounting bolts are tight. Is your boat in the water or are you starting it on a water hose?
