Ditched the Crackberry...

For all you Blackberry Storm haters, what software version are you running? Do you do memory cleanups? Do you have it set on a schedule? When was the last time you did a battery pull? Do you have resets (basically what a battery pull does) set on a schedule say with a program called quickpull?

Verizon did come out with version .148 a couple weeks ago which significantly improves the performance over the previous version .75. It helps with switching from landscape to portrait mode, answering calls, and many other problems you're probably annoyed with, etc. There's a whole list of upgrades. I even tried Gary's spin deal on the table in both portrait and landscape mode... it stayed each and every time in the model I initially put it in.

I have a hacked version above .148 which is even better. My performance is pretty damn rock solid at the moment.

I also unlocked my phone a month ago and used it with my work's AT&T SIM card in Amsterdam and Spain. No issues whatsoever.

Your post is why I hate it. I shouldn't have to do all this sh!t. Reminds me working with windoze. I don't want to futz with my phone all the time to keep it working. I want something that just works.

I love my Mac...

The Storm is a computer, not a dumb phone. What do you expect? Iphones sucked when they first came out. Why do you think Apple is on their 3rd version of the Iphone already? RIM will get through it just like Apple did.

Again, update your phone to the new software and you'll be much happier.

I'm pretty familiar with what a smart phone is...

The Storm sucks... even RIM knows it... They stopped making it after only a few months. Apple still makes the iPhone last time I checked.

I pull the battery all the time. Even have the quickpull application. I have to do it all the time b/c the damn thing just freezes on me. I noticed the phone/computer ( ) has a hard time multitasking. But i am a heavy user. Run Slacker / Lattitude / chat / browse the web at the same time. Maybe im asking too much of it.

I have yet to update it b/c it warmed me that the update might delete all my personal photo's on the phone. I have been meaning to hook it up to the computer and unload the personal crap before i do the update. I hope you are right, i hope i solves a lot of my problems.

I did the last update. Kept the memory clean, etc, etc, etc... Had to do a battery pull at least 2 times a week. The phone was also replaced with a new one after the first one froze and would do nothing, even pulling the battery. I don't know how many times I went to the Verizon store with different problems.

You don't have to delete anything for the upgrade, again, that is another problem I had and called Verizon about. They said to make sure the phone was fully charged, do a battery pull and then do the upgrade... PERFECT!:smt021

Love the iPhone and it has been flawless. Just upgraded to the new 3.0 software which makes it even easier to use so far.
And this message is sent via iPhone.

Since when was Storm production stopped? The Storm 2 is set to release at some point this year.

You will not lose your info. Before any upgrades, back your info up first.

They told you that because you're doing the over the air upgrade. That takes forever and sucks down your battery! Do the upgrade on your computer. You have much more control over what you can do and it takes 30 minutes or less.

I also would bet that if you did a clean install and reloaded the OS along with any programs, settings, etc that your phone would be fine.

Send all your phones to me and I'll hook them up.

I agree on the Storm comments. My son talked me into it and it's a piece of crap.

You just have to stop listening to your sons. I think you'll be happier and healthier. At least one trip less to the ER.

I'm pretty familiar with what a smart phone is...

Asked your son? Sorry, couldn't resist. Please try not to leave openings. I can't resist temptation.

Are you guys upgrading through the Desktop manager for the storm or through Verizon?
I am ready to ditch it too but I figure I will give it time since it is a work phone and I dont pay for it and they won't support an Iphone.
Where is the software upgrade found?

The new 3.0 software ROCKS. I think the battery life doubled. I'm still running on a single charge since yesterday. AT&T can suck my missing toe with their lame excuses for not implementing some of the features yet.

The new Navionics software that just came out today... lets you take pics and geotags them onto the maps.... lets you email pics, tracks, location. SWEET!!!! Navionics is really making some nice additions to the app and it's still only $4.99. I think it's blowing iNavx out of the water at this point.

another sweet app is skype, I make so many free long distance calls... works just like a phone. Love it.

Actually I have 7 pages of apps on my phone. lots and lots of cool programs. most of them were free.

still exploring the new software and over the next few months, a lot of apps will get updated to take advantage of all the new features.

and took advantage of the $99 I-Phone. All I can say is WOW, what a great phone!! I thought the Storm was a great phone till I got my hands on an I-Phone to mess with. The Storm is now going on E-Bay!

So... lets hear about all the great apps, tips and tricks.

Did you get the old one or new Iphone

in iTunes, highlight applications on the side. at the bottom, click "check for updates". re-sync the phone.

You know you have the new version if there is a little camera icon in the upper left corner of navionics.

Mark - my storm is driving me nuts. I feel like it is too damn slow and unresponsive. I too were toying w/ the idea of getting an iPHONE. Verizon has me by the :smt101 w/ a contract. Every account i cancel is 150 bucks. Did you have to pay the termination fee?

what O/S are you running?
