I have a 1988 270 with twin 4.3 engines. The PO had changed out the point ignition to electronic. I replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, & coil. When I hook up the timing light, I am getting no spark to #1, & sporadic spark to #3. I bought a new Mallory mech adv electronic distributor. In the instruction manual there is a sheet saying with OMC engines I need to put in resistors in the gray wire coming off the coil going to the shift box.. How do I test to see if I need to put in the resistors? What would be different from the old dist? Thanks!

if you know the manufacturer of the electronc ignition conversion kit you may want to contact them to ask these types of detailed questions....their technical staff should be able to guide you through a troubleshooting process....
