So, unlike a thread where you can upload a picture to the thread it appears, the pictures in the signature block appear to need to be hosted somewhere and linked.

I've put the picture in dropbox and Google Drive and shared them publicly and then copied the supplied link into the link box in the signature edit screen but they don't display. If I email someone the link they're able to click it and open the image.

I don't want to have to pay for another service just for one picture.

Thoughts?

Great info folks. But I'm still struggling.

I create the imgbb.com account and uploaded the picture. I got the link copied and pasted the raw link and the IMG link below

I edited my signature and placed the same link there. As you can see the image about and the signature imagine don't work however the link does.

I just created an image that 117 x 46 pixels which is tiny and still no joy.

I'm using the picture icon above that's between the smiley face and the film role (media). I assume that's correct. I looked at the imgbb site and don't see anything that would restrict the picture's access.

There should be a size limit on the picture if included in the signature. It's annoying when someone places a huge picture of their boat that's bigger than the posting.

Are you aware you can go into your user preferences and turn off peoples signature blocks? That way you'd only see content. Most will have their location and boat information in the avatar to the left.
