Dinghy/Tender Thread ?

Two Buoys, What is the cost for the Heavy Roller System? JC

I ordered the standard light with hand winch and quick release pins for around $4225 Canadian dollars. (Boat Show Price)

I believe the standard heavy is around $600 (CDN $) more than the standard.

If you call ask for Rudy, he is the owner, he can give you all the details.

Do you really need a mounting system?

If oyu have an air floor dinghy, which can't weigh too much, and a small outboard, why do you really need a mounting system?

Won't a few ratchet tie down straps, and maybe a few ropes tied to your stern cleats, do the job? Is it that hard to slide a dinghy onto the platform?

I don't want to tilt my motor (this is future dinghy and future motor), so I would want it mounted upright. I'm not real keen on putting all that hardware on the platform. Is it really necessary?

To me, the advantage of the Weaver system is that the dinghy is mounted vertically, and if you use a stand-off arrangement the swim platform is still usable to board the boat. If the dinghy is flat on the platform I think it would block the transom door (at least on our boat it would).

I also have a 270 air deck with a Yamaha 5 HP (2 stroke). I can get it on plane with just me in it by moving as far forward as possible, add one of my kids........forget it. I transport it by attaching a line to each D ring, pulling it bow first on to the lower swim platform then tieing the lines on the aft cleats. Works pretty good, I would rather not have any hardware on the swim platform. As far as the motor, I just lay it on a towel in front of the aft seat. There was a picture of a 370 (on SRO or Yachtworld, I think) that had the outboard poking up thru the day hatch on some kind of aluminum mount...........outboard motor in the bilge..........uh, I don't know about that.

For storing it, we have dinghy storage racks at our club, motor goes in the dock box.

I also have the 270 Air Deck, must be a popular boat! No matter how hard I row, it will not get on plane  – shopping for engine now.

After some consideration and discussion with Todd Hurley, I purchased the Hurley Davit system. Davits have arrived but I have not yet had a chance to install.
http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=827&highlight=hurley+davit

Advantages: boat lays flat, with engine attached, easy loading / launching and can store dinghy on platform with a cover. Better visibility and dinghy should not catch air while underway with flat position and does not cover name on boat, provides access to trunk.

Disadvantages: Swim platform mostly covered by the dinghy (But we don’t board from the platform.) and two 6†white cleats attached to platform with davit removed.

Weaver davitts and standoffs

This is a real sweet system, I can manage the weight alone both up and down. I mounted my 4 hp 2 stroke on a swivel transom mount. I never take to motor off.

Ajones;

Is that a weaver system...and are you talking abou the weaver cleaver for the motor mount?

I have a 340 air deck with 15hp 2 stroke Yamaha sitting on a Hurley davit on my 370 and I could not be happier for the money. I leave motor right on and the boat pivots right onto the davit. I have it loaded in a matter of minutes.I use 4 stainless cambuckle straps and its never gone any place even in some nasty conditions.I got it last season and must have been approached a 1/2 dozen times after I was done loading and asked what type of system I was using. My neighbor at the marina Im at went out and bought one for his Maxum. Its a nice alternative to a hydraulic platform and it does not clutter up platform its easily removed.

Admiral
This is a swivel mount that bolts onto the transom of the dingy. There is a "T" pin you loosen and pivot the motor to a stop position. I purchased the bracket for $100 new on e-bay, it works slick. http://www.allinflatables.com/shopping/custom/pivot.html
I had purchased the Weaver Clever and found it to be too much hardware for the transom, so I never mounted it and sold the system. I guess when I said I did my homework, I learned the hard way by purchasing several systems till I decided on this one.

Alan:

I've seen does things on ebay. When I first bought my dinghy last year, I really wasn't sure if I would use it often, and I had these visions of zipping on plane and pulling water skiers...well not really, but I did think that a 270 airdeck with a 5hp 2 stroke would jump on plane. So originally, I was concerned with that setup moving the motor too far aft and effecting plane-a-bility.

Now that I know I was just dreaming about jumping on plane, I'm glad to hear your review on this product is positive. I'll have to give another look-see.

Oh....and by the way........I'm Dom....my wife is the "real" admiral....admiral on CSR is a title you earn after so many post...don't know how many.....makes us feel good, but most of us are lucky that the "real" admiral let's us think we're captains...

Swivel Bracket

Dom,
The interesting thing about this bracket is with my 4 HP 2 stroke mounted on the transom I had a hard time getting the boat on plane (with one person). With the mounting bracket it jumps out of the water and is scary at top speed.

JC,
what kinda lift u going with.....

I so on the fence... I afraid the dink would get in the way if it were left on the swim platform when atthe dock....

And of course if I get the lift... I have to get a new dink....

Let me know

Rob

Rob, I have looked at every setup imaginable. It is really hurting me to think about that $27,000.00 for a lift. I feel thats almost highway robbery. With that being said, I will most likely go with Florida Bow Thruster. They have been a little easier to work with.
I have to have a firm decsion this week. Its not so much the money(it always is some) but knowing that the price has jumped almost 50% in less than 3 years, it just rubs me the wrong way! I will let you know by friday what i definetly went with. JC

JC,

Just think about what SR would charge you at full retail for installing on a new boat - you won't feel so bad - you're getting such a bargain!

Sea Gull, I thought about it all nite and i still dont feel in better about it! :smt089 JC

JC -

What are you going to haul with it that makes a platform worth that kind of money?

I know a lot of people have them, but hokey smokes, that's real cash.

Ylwjacket, We spend alot of time in the Exumas. Having a nice Dinghy is a real nice exploring tool. Wanted to put a Nautica 12DL with a 40hp on it. Still have not reached a firm decsion. Might back down some and try something smaller(lighter) with Hurley or some other form of mount. I really want a formadible dinghy in any event. I have a couple of days to think it thru. By the way, i saw your pollitical comment. Iam a Frm State Rep for what ever thats worth(0). Started THE 10 COMMANDMENT LEGISLATION battle in 1996. All the way to the Supreme Court. Now back to BOATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smt038 JC
