I'm shopping for a dinghy for our 2010 Sedan Bridge 520, with the hydraulic swim platform, and looking for feedback on how long of a dinghy will comfortably fit. The specs say the beam is 12' 3", although I think the swim platform is a bit narrower.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has any experience to share.

I recently purchased an AB Mares 10VSX to go on a Riviera 4400 sport yacht with a 15' beam. The VSX measures 10'-6" and I wouldn't want to go an inch bigger. It fits well but longer would concern me during docking and rough seas. Are you sure the 510 beam is only 12'-3"? I thought it was over 15'

BBT is correct - your beam is wider than 12'3". With that said, I have Zodiac 340 YachtLine that I carried on my 52DB. I wouldn't go any bigger than a 340. If you're not considering a console driven tender, I'd recommend something like a 310.

I carry AB DLX 11 on mine. Couple of CSR friends with 520DBs carry DLX12, which works very nicely on their vessels. I would also agree that 340YL is a good choice.

My Nuvarania is 11' with a 30 and fills most of the beam as Alex says you can fit a 12DLX AB with a 40 and takes up the entire beam. The boats never really feel the weight of either size

Our beam is slightly narrower at 14'8 and we already had a caribe D11 with a 40hp on it. This past weekend we put the dingy on the lift and I really liked the fit. I don't know if I would go much bigger. We had this tender on our 40 sundancer and it was really to big for that boat. Personally I never liked the fit and was always concerned getting up on plane, in locks and while docking. What I am trying to say is too big can be a pain in the a**.

My swim platform is 2' above the water, yours I'm guessing is a high one too. What do you have for davits, do you pull the dinghy on by hand?

The YL340 is only rated for 4 people, and we have 3 kids, so the wife has ruled that out. We are looking at the AB VST12, or the ALX12 (aluminium) or the Apex Eurosport 12.

Your beam won't be 15'3" back at the platform, probably closer to 13'2" or thereabouts. Also remember that you have to add length to account for the outboard tilted.

I just bought and installed an Achilles 310 HB-AX (Aluminum Hull). My platform's width is about 12'5". The boat is published at 10'2" L x 5'2" W. I went with the 10HP, but max is 15. You'll see with engine tilted it adds quite a bit to the length. I did not want a tender that overhung my platform.

We have a 310 Zodiac (non console) that fits our 480DB nicely. I probably could have gone with a 340 but getting into the transom locker is a little tight as it is now.

What made you pick aluminum over fiberglass? I'm having this debate right now!

Our dinghy weighs around 650lbs. We have a crane in the transom locker that launchs and retrieves it. The davits are stationary made by UMT.

I've owned an aluminum hull AB as well as numerous fiberglass hull RIB's. One thing to be Aware of is that the published weights for many of the boats are completely incorrect, especially the aluminum models. So if you're looking at aluminum to save weight, do your homework.

Yeah, with 3 kids almost any brand up to 11' will have only 4 people ratings. 12'er will fit just fine on your boat. Look at Caribe as well. Greg has it for number of years and it's a great 5 sitter tender. AB DLX12 is a 5 sitter and will fit fine. As Joe said, the mothership doesn't feel the difference.
