I just replaced my old dinghy with a new one... My old dinghy had the registration numbers stenciled and what looks like spray-painted on the the sides. (Bought the old one used)

What should I do as far as putting on new registration numbers? Paint, vinyl?
Thanks!

I bought the vinyl numbers and tried to glue them on. They are not staying on very well at all. If I had to do it over, I would definitely spary paint them on.

It was recently suggested to me,for my new dinghy, that I use the stencils and a thick permanent marker. Easy and looks good. You might have to go over it once per year. Easier than paint I think.

I bought these boat registration numbers back in 2006. I had them on the first dink, and when it was replaced under warranty, I was able to remove them from the old dink and re-glue them on the new dink. I'm not sure, but I think it was from a company called boatnumbers....that was when they were first getting started, and I think they now actually have a dealers network.....you might want to try and google them....anyway, I'm very happy with the quality...

How in the world did you take that picture of your dinghy while you were underway? You must have been hanging way out over the side....

Nevermind... that is not the hull side but the transom door indentation...

www.boatnumberplate.com looks like the best idea. But its kind of a convoluted process. First you order the code kit from West Marine or Boaters World. Some of the stores have them on site...my West Marine didn't. So then they send the code via mail (with about $7 shipping charge).

You take the code go to boatnumberplate website...fill in your information...then they send you the numbers and you glue them on.

The plates do not come with the adhesive...so I had to buy a $19! dollar tube of hypalon cement. I should get my numbers today and I'll post a picture when I get them glued on.

It looks like a great idea but you'll have ~$65 and a week's time by the time its all said and done.

I used a paint/wax remover, a stencil, and then vinyl spray paint on mine. It works great. You can see in the picture I put the name and reg #'s on it.
