So I'm going to get between a 7.5' to 8.5' dinghy and an outboard for it. Most likely a 6hp 4stroke. I'm planning on tying down the dinghy on the swim platform, against the transom.
How should I secure the outboard? Should I leave it on the dinghys transom? I'm not sure if the sideways angle would make the internal oil seep in to the carb.
or if I take it off the dinghy, where would be a good place to store/secure it? An outboard is a rather ungainly and awkward object..and weighing around 80lbs..would make quite the 'loose cannon'.
Again, any thoughts and ideas appreciated!

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm in the process of installing some Weaver quick connects for mounting the inflatable on the swim platform. I think it's going to work great, but I haven't got to the point of figuring out how to mount the outboard. They make a device that you mount on your inflatable that rotates the outboard into a vertical position while the inflatable is stored on it's side, but I'm not getting that fancy because I just won't be using it that much.

They make mounting boards that sailboats use as they're attached to their stern railing. I don't have any railing like that on mine, so I'm thinking I might have to install the mounting board in some permanent way into the fiberglass.

Here are several options: http://www.westmarine.com/motor-mounts

I made a set of "Dom's dingy davits" for my dink. Do a search here. Dale (masterfab) custom made the arms that mount in the receiver. I can just pull my dingy up on the platform with the motor in place & secure it there in its normal horizontal position.
