I have a 2004 320 dancer and am looking for dinghys'. Just curious where everyone puts their motor-- I'm thinking aft- cabin? I don't think I can fit it anywhere else unfortunately. I'm looking for minimum 6 hp and it will likely be 4 stroke.

thanks
Jon

Jon-

thanks for the reply. what is the length of the dinghy? can u walk around it or remove it first if u need to get off the swim platform?
the motor would not fit into the transom storage right?

The dink at 10'2" takes most of the platform but, the stern has that upper step before the platforn and that is how we access it. It can be boarded then from either port of starboard side. The dink can be easily "dumped" from the davit when at rest for more room. The motor does fit well in the rear storage. That is how we first ran with new dink w/ out the davit. Just tied to rear cleats with motor in rear locker. It is sooo much easier with davit. My daughters job is to launch the dink when we land. She get a kick out of it. Dont know how we boated before with out a dinhy!

I thought you were not supposed to leave the motor on the dink while bringin her up on the platform. Any problems with balance, weight, etc. when you leave the engine on the boat? I would imagine it is a bit more difficult to hoist up? Sure sounds alot easier than hoisting the engine out and back in every time!

Works just fine w/ motor on, We offset the Davit 1.) to clear the gussets on the underside of the swim platform and 2.) We have it off set a little extra to handle the extra weight of the motor. Taking the motor on and off is just a pain. I would allways tie a line off on the motor in case she got loose on me. luckily that never happened.

We originally ran with a 4 stroke 15 hp. That was too much HP for my kids to handle. The davit did just fine.

We traded it in for a 5 hp and that will take one person on plane fine. I think I'll keep my eyes open for a 9.9 so it will get two up on plane. Most of the time we use it in " no wake areas" so the 5 works well now.

When we are away for a couple days we store it on the davit. It has a cover and stays clean.

We Have A 2004-320 Sundancer - Looking At The Hurly Davits. We Have A 10' Ab Hard Bottom With A 9.9 Nissan Engine. How Hard Is It To Pull Up Your Dingy On The Hurly Davits And How Does It Ride In Heavy Seas?

When we lift the motor off, I wrap it in towels and place it on the floor in the cockpit up against the rear seat. The table hides it, mostly. We don't usually have to do this, but sometimes we do. I haven't tried to wrestle into the cabin. It's an 8HP, 2-stroke (light, yet powerful, and no leaks).

Note: 4-strokes contain oil, and may leak (do leak) when laid on side.
