I'm just spit balling here but...could you take the weaver mounts and mount them vertically in the rear face of your platform and alter the "leg" with a 90* bend to keep the platform completely flush when the dinghy isnt to here?

I know the "anything can be done" saying but structurally, the dinghy actually rests on the platform not the mounts so it wouldn't be transferring the load any differently just changing the actual mounting face. That would keep from smashing toes if the dingy and levers weren't on it.

Magstang, I'm in no rush but I am considering doing this when I pick up a dinghy. I am buying a friends Achilles but it is burried in his summer cottage so I won't have it for a while, when I get it I'll let you know if there is any room.

I wouldn't mount anything on the face of the platform, the pressure alone I think would damage it eventually. I had a set of tie down rings on my 320 for the dinghy , the wind blew the boat back into the dock and pushed the rings through the face of the platform. $1200 glass repair. The weaver davits are actually pretty low profile. And when the dinghy is off the arms I leave the arms I'm so people would not walk on the weavers. Hope this helps

I routinely pull my 10' rib on to my platform and tie it in place with some dock lines when we head out for the weekend. I'm sure it can be done. It just takes time and $$$.

Its quite a process taking the motor off and tying up a spider web of dock lines. The davit would be a welcome relief.

I wasn't thinking about the torque during lifting, I guess it could crack or cause stress. I was only thinking about while it was in the upright position. That makes sense.

Alex F would you recommend the starboard davits you mounted to the face of your old boat?

@havanashamrock did you ever get the mounts electro polished and if so who did you have do the work ? I'm also a LI'er

Starboard worked like a charm for me. It's been a while, but I may have a template.

I just had Masterfab (CSR member) fabricate this setup for me. He had them electro polished. Looks and works great. I need to post some pics when I have a chance but couldn't be happier.

Yes they where electroplolished and looked and held up great. The key here is to have a fabricator make them from 316L SS as Dale did for me with SS welding rods etc. then had them electropolished.

Hehe...they work so well and your measurements were spot on, I don't need to remove the dink to fit in my slip. I watch my dock mates struggle with loading and unloading their dinks at the docks. The next time we head out I'lll get some pics

Any luck finding templates?
Or a least measurements for the actual mount in transom?
Thinking I'm going to do mount in 1"
And rest in 3/4"...

PM me your address and I'll send you a copy of the templates.

Hi Alex. I came across your dinghy davit thread and like your mounting idea. I also have a 05' 320 Sundancer with a swim platform like yours and was wondering how your mounts and davits were holding up? Have you made any changes over the years?
Thanks

I made a minor change by moving up to 420DB with hydraulic lift. :)

The mounts worked fine to the last day. My dink was light with inflatable floor and 4HP engine, so my setup handled it pretty good.
