I recently installed a new smaller digital tv in the cabin of my 340 Dancer, but still don't get very good reception. Has anyone else had luck improving reception by either replacing the old amplifier or stock Glomax antenna?

My original Glomex setup picks up Digital fine. Check the coax antenna connection at the Glomex antenna. Many (including me) have found the Glomex was not even connected right at the factory. Mine was never connected.

So yes, it should work. The general preception is that the only difference between the analog and digital Glomex is the "DTV Ready" sticker.

If the AMP or antenna is bad, it is under a Lifetime warranty and Glomex will replace it for free.

Did you just install a replacement for the original amplifier? Where did you get? Or did you do an upgrade?

Thanks
Steve

They will have you remove the amp, which is easy, just label the wires if they are not already.

Then they will have you send the amp to them for testing. If it’s bad they replace it for no charge.

I did this and it made a big difference in my reception.

Before my exchange my dial would spin. It never clicked ‘off.’ Now it clearly clicks off with no red LED light and clicks on then as I turn the dial the red LED gets much brighter. With the LED bright my reception is better.

@ Steve, Look on Ebay you will find the amps only for $20-60.

Just purchased a 2006 SeaRay 280, and everything works...but the tv.
We can adjust the gain thru the entire spectrum, weak to strong, but we still just get static (in an area, San Francisco, that I could get reception on a cheap antenna). Is there another switch or something I need to turn on?

First thing-do you have a digital TV or a digital converter? If the TV is original, I do not think it is digital and you must have a newer TV or the digital converter. If you know you have digital, I would do as Jason78 states above and start with the antenna/coax and make sure it is connected. Then move to the amp and see if it performs as indicated above. Removing the amp and returning for verification or replacement is easy and free.

Check the coax connection to the antenna. I just finished replacing the radar, AM/FM antenna, and GPS antennas on the arch. I also took off the Glomex antenna so the entire arch could be polished and everything bedded correctly. When I pulled the antenna up the coax fell out of the connector; it was a very poor assembly and some corrosion was noted on the wire. I had decent reception but now have great reception now that that wire is correctly terminated.

I'm having a new radar put on the boat during the winter, and while they have things opened up to pull the cable for the radar, I'm having them mount a new TV antenna and pull a new TV cable. The old tv antenna was missing when I bought the boat, and only the mount was still on the radar arch, with an open cable that had been clipped off and left up there. (Open mount allowing water to go into the arch, sloppy, or lazy, or both.) Since water in coax is bad, I decided to replace it. I'm hoping it will work with the amp that's already installed, but we might be looking at that too once we have the antenna installed!

Funny, I don't really miss TV on the boat, but "she who must be obeyed" seemed to think we need it... so this winter, it became a priority... If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

We have Direct TV on board, but one weekend a larger vessel was blocking our dish so I threw up some cheap digital rabbit ears and was pulling 30+ stations in for free.... remind me again why I am paying $$ for Direct ????

"she who must be obeyed"
Now that takes me back; my father now 92 would say that in reference to my mother now 89, still together and living in the Idaho mountains...

Yes... I guess I picked up that phrase from my dad too... who told me at their 50th anniversary something like: "you don't make it to 50 without learning a few things... for example, your mother is not always right, but rest assured that I am ALWAYS wrong"

Hello - I have a 2009 280 Sundancer and the Glomex gain control dial does not appear to turn on...can someone let me know where the amp is located so that I can check all the connections? thank you.

Lon mine it's part of the gain. I think you remove the face plate and the guts are all there. Do you have a digital converter box? You'll need that if you want any OTA channels.

Amp is behind the knob you are turning. Hot and ground wire are on the back of the unit. Check there and if hou have power, the amp is bad. Call Imtra for return authorization and get a new one free. They carry a lifetime warranty.

Last time I had my refer out, I was messing with the tv cable routed behind it and found there is no 12v DC connection to my Glomex amp. I checked my schematic and it doesn't show a 12v connection, just the coax connection. Is it possible Sea Ray neglected to power this amp or the PO removed the wiring? I need to find the 12v power I can connect to so I can improve my TV reception.

It should be very easy to remove it. Pop off the face plate and an upper screw and a lower screw just like a light switch.

The Glomex Amp in my boat is in the cabinet next to the AC/DC power center cabinet. Behind / inside the power center switch panels is a 120VAC outlet that the Glomex power supply is plugged into. It's that white transformer in this pic.

I purchased a 2000 Sea Ray 480 Sedan Bridge in Canada a few months ago, and just ended a 2 week trip bringing it don from Lake Ontario to Southport, NC. I did not bother hooking up the cable to the marina until I reach Southport, and when I did, the reception was really bad. After several hours of troubleshooting (the system had Satellite TV at some point), we figured out it was the Glomex gain control. I was able to just turn it off, or set it to no gain, and the picture was great. Not sure if this helps, but I thought I would share.
