I have 400 hours on these engines. When I reach 12 kts my fuel goes from 12 GPH to 30 GPR, and I start getting diesle smoke, by 18 kts it is really bad. My mechanics are all stumped. Any advice, i.e. wrong props, fuel injection. The boat is a 50', 1997 Sea Ray Express Cruiser.:smt100

If they are 6V92TA Detroits, you should be able to achieve 2300-2350 rpm at wide open throttle.

Heavy smoke could indicate lack of air. Are the air filters clean? Are the turbos kicking in?

Yes. Sounds like a rag in the vent ports or wet air filters.

Air starvation. Hard to believe that both injection pumps took a dump together.
Unless there is a tee'd fuel tank return that is plugged/
