Diesel View / Vessel View Upgrade

The cables (8M0075065 and 8M0075066) worked as Mercury said however I still had to patch in the power cable for the 703. It was easy to follow the OE cable (as a guide) and patch it into the 8M0075065 the same way Mercury did.

By adding this Medusa style cable it provides the needed data for the Smartcraft 5" Tach and 4/1 Gauges to work. The Temperature also is now displayed from the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor.
Ok so just picked up a 703 for a song in Gulfport MS on Offer Up while on the road this week. I ordered the 065 and 066 cables as RLynch stated here. I want to get it working on the QSC's first then I will work on getting the geney data working. RLynch can you give me some details on the "power modification" you did to the cable you talk about please.

This link has some helpful info.

And I didn’t mention this adapter cable but I believe it was needed also.

Cummins Mercury SmartCraft VesselView Adapter Harness
$90.00

Manufacturer: Mercury / Cummins Marine
Cummins P/N: 4993480

Also Known As:
525756400
5257564

84-879969A
M&G E8115384

As far as the “Medusa” cable, it is a patch cable and tied into my Ambient Air sensor, alarm, etc. I followed the OEM cable and patched it in the same way.

I can take picture if needed.?.

10-4 ordered all the cables from ebay. I will be back in touch once I have them all so i can lay this out and get it all ready to "plug & pray". Thanks....

Ok got all my cables... Now what do I remove and what do I install where? Help appreciated. RLynch do you have ay kind of blueprint on this?

I never found a drawing that covered my set up. Figured it out as I went along and Chad at Mercury (number below) helped fill in the blanks when things didn't work. The attached diagram which comes with the VV703 helps a little but it doesn't show you the jumper needed between the two Smartcraft Junction Blocks or the Medusa Cable you will need to tie in your 4/1 Gauges and ambient temp sensor.

I will take some pictures and try to diagram out my system this weekend if you need it.

Thank you for that. It would be appreciated.

Hope this wiring helps. If you want to chat I can send you my number. I am not sure if you will need the 8M0075066 cable. It may come with your Vessel View.

This is awesome... I am going to lay this out in my garage and then in a couple of weeks when I am ready to tackle this I will keep you posted. I am still working with Technografics to come up with a solution to mount this. It is bigger than the real estate I have on the original panel. Thank you for the blueprint.

Ok so I laid this out and figured I need a 892323A01 (dual wake adaptor) which I just ordered from SeaBoard. Now tell me more about what you did for the "Link Power Display" cord? The one that came with mine has a plug that looks like you plug it into the hub to grab power? But I seem to remember you said somewhere you had to "splice" that in to make it work?

Lastly for connections "H" in your diagram which ones on the Medusa harness did you use for the gauges ,there are 4 connectors on there with blanking plugs labled either "sys link port / stbd" or "sys link portcrt / stbdcrt"?

So being as this is a major undertaking I have to assume this will give me more access to info that the NEMA 2k vessel link feed to my Raymarine MFDs that I currently have? It would kill me to go through all this to gain nothing....

Also did you end up feeding your genny data into this on yours?

Grant did you purchase the 8M0075065 Medusa cable? That cord replaced my OEM Medusa cable that didn’t support two units, in this case the VV7 and VV Link.

For the Link Gauges I also had two sets of link ports wired into the 8M0075065 but I believe they are both labeled the same. I plugged one set into the analog Smartcraft gauges (port and starboard) and they worked.

If you tie the Vessel View display into your N2K backbone you should be able to display any other info available and provided by other N2K components e.g., Fusion Radio, Depth, Rudder position, etc. The engine data will come through the existing Smartcraft Cables and Junction Blocks and into your VV Link.

All of that is dependent on what information was available before this upgrade and what inputs you have on the N2K backbone.

Generator as I understand it requires an additional interface to decode the Gen outputs such as Maretron. If you have Gen info on your older VV you may get lucky. I exhausted options with a direct connect from the generator even though the wiring was there the info never was shown on the OEM or upgraded VV7 for me. I added a separate Onan Display unit to display the Gen Data.

Hope this helps...

Rich

Yes I got the 8M0075065 Medusa cable. But confused on what to do with the power cable for the VV7 display... Where does it grab power.

Then on the 8M0075065 these are the 4 connectors that I have and wondering which ones are for the gauges

Super thanks to RLynch and all his help... Sbmar marine let me down and shipped the wrong harness but turned out I already had it from my Nema converter. Plugged everything in as your diagram showed, powered up and did the setup as required from the menus on the VV7 and I am running. Even the mechanical gauges all working... now just need to finish the programming and learn how to use it. Doing this the same time as I am upgrading my MFDs so got a lot of wiring to clean up.

Awesome glad to hear it... See photo of how I set up the VV7 display.

Which MFD’s did you go with?

Next question do i still need this to feed my engine data to my MFD’s? Since VV7 is already NEMA 2000 I am thinking I don’t now? The data should already be on the NEMA network right?

No, you won’t need that harness to display engine data on your MFD’s. The engine info is backfeed through your NEMA2k backbone and available on any device that can display it such as your MFD’s.

Impressive numbers......

I normally show the GPH for both engines on the far left table however for some reason that table constantly reverts back to the way it is now. Haven’t figured that out yet.

Tom are you you referring to the speed at RPM or the MPG?
