Gentlemen,
Fuel gauges are inaccurate and Unreliable.
I verified the Gauge operation, voltages and grounds on the Port, Starboard and Center tanks. Electrically the gauges are fully operational at the dash.

The only gauge that is accurate is the Starboard side.
Center tank rests at 1/2 full (With a full tank)
Port tank sits on "E" (With a full tank)

As a precaution, I inspected and replaced the tank ground connections.

To gain access to the sending units, do I have to cut back the salon deck to gain access to the sending units?
I find this hard to believe, Unless I'm missing a removable panel somewhere!!

Also, help on the sending unit part numbers would be appreciated.

Thank you!
Andy

I had the same problem last year. My gauges always showed far less fuel than was actually in the tanks. When I pulled the sending units the cork ball floats were saturated with diesel and falling apart- meaning they wouldn't float properly. I pulled them and replaced with Centroid senders. They're custom made, no moving parts, and calibrated to be very accurate.

I don't know anything about the location of your fuel tanks, but the sending units should be accessible.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your replies!
After thinking and searching, before cutting, I found the following:
Found three fuel tank sending unit access panels in the salon deck floor. Great No cutting!!
The carpeting must be pulled back approximately 3 feet from the salon couch.
The access ports are removable and in approximate line with the GFI located under the salon couch.
Access ports ( 6 x 6") are under the carpet padding making sensor replacement easy.
Thank you all for you inputs!
Andy

We have a 1997 450 and the starboard fuel sensor just crapped out.The port side has an access panel.Does anyone know if the starboard side has one? I can't seem to find it either.

Thanks
