I posted this ? on Boatdiesel a long time ago and never got an answer. Why is it that the diesel fuel lines have a pressed-on fitting? I noticed that some on my boat had been replaced with the usual hose clamps. I've got a couple of fuel lines showing their age (surface cracking) and want to replace them. Do I need these "fittings", where do I find them and how are they installed??

Last longer, don't need to be tightened, quick and easy to do on an assembly line basis. Once one has the equipment to crimp the sleeve, the sleeves are pretty cheap to install, actually less expensive than hose clamp which takes longer to install.

Best regards,
Frank

Any shop or store that makes custom to fit hydraulic hoses can make up fuel lines. The problem may be that you need brass or bronze fittings, not the usual cadmium plated ones used for industrial or agricultural uses.

tobnpr - If you can seek out a Parker Store or a hydraulic hose shop that uses Parker products, they offer a 221FR series of Marine Fuel and Engine Hose. This series of hose offers either a crimp on 26 series fitting or a field attachable 20 or 22 series.

221FR has a 500 psi working pressure, depending on the id is rated for 24 to 20 inches of Hg (vacuum), and it offers an attractive bend radius in all sizes.

Beginning in 2006 Parker's steel hose ends are all plated with trivalent chromate (Chromium 6 Free). This means it enhances corrosion resistance on the fittings better than the previous hexavalent chromate plating they once used. Plus it is more environmentally friendly to manufacturer...The new Chrome 6 Free plating color is silver, the old plating was a gold color.

Probably more than you wanted to know, however this type of hose end plating is compatible with diesel.

I agree with fc3. I went through some problems with a water line off my seawater pumps. After some research I found a place in Clearwater called Hose and hydraulics
(727-461-2079) they can make anything for Marine applications you can come up with.
They are also easy people to work with. Hope this helps.
