Didn't change the oil prior...

Brad,

Thank you for all of your insight on this topic. You really have put my mind at ease.

Can you give any insight on using sparkplugs such as the Bosch +2, or +4 style? do they work any better than standard plugs in a marine environment? I plan on upgrading the points/condenser with the electronic replacement in the spring, as I am trying to get every bit of efficiency out of the power plant.

Thank you!

Gregg

I use AC plugs, mr43t is the plug for your boat. The best upgrade for your engine is the Delco complete distributer kit. It comes with a new Delco distributer(HEI of course) the coil and all wiring and harnesses needed. I sell them for 295.00 a kit. Look for them this winter on www.marinediscounters.com. Don't deal with the distributer plate replacements they are more trouble than they are worth.

No they do no better. Electricity follows the path of least resistance no matter what. They can market all they want and make it sound good but the laws of physics still apply.

Brad,

Thank you for your input on the distributor upgrade. I was planning on the plate replacement. Sounds like I'll go for the complete distrubutor replacement instead. I will replace the plug wires at the same time.

I did the elctronic conversion kit on the old boat and it worked great for years. Now, if I would have know about the kit brad talks about I might have considered it as well considering the price is not that much more.

sbw1,
Should I do that with the muffs/hose prior to splash?
The manual is boring. these threads are much more entertaining!

I used to do this when I had a trailerable boat. Saves you lots of stress at the ramp. Better to find out any problems in your driveway than at the ramp with people watching, waiting and giving you "advice."
