Just got my bill for detail work $1,400 including tax. They wash, polish, and clean all exterior surfaces from water line including upper helm and aft deck. This does not include painting the hull.
Is this a reasonable price? They do good work. Last year friends complimented us on how good it look, said it looked like we just had the boat painted.
Boat is 38 foot at waterline. I did it once myself and it took me three 8 hour days.

Seems kind of high to me, if you did it in 24 hours that's roughly $60 an hour. If it's worth it to you that's all that counts.

You might ask on iboatnw.c-- lots of folks with good local knowledge.

I think its a little high, just had a friend that had his done for 800(Canadian) for 34ft, but I just spent 110 on PoliGlow and about 4hrs later my boat looks likes it just came out of the factory. Everybody at the marina has said that it looks better than his, even the owner lol

It could be high, but could also be low. It really depends on what shape the boat was in to start. What shape was the stainless in? The non skid?

A great deal on a boat that size would still be 750-1000 depending on how good a job is done. Who were the folks that did it?

you paid almost $37 per foot.....that sounds pretty high....i had my 340 detailed a few weeks ago for $14 per foot or $476 total.....this included the same level of detailing you mentioned in your original post....3 Mexican guys had it done in about 5 hours and it looks great.....i know we are in different geographical areas but i don't think it shoud make that much of a difference...or does it?....the boat was in reasonable condition to start with....no heavy compounding or wet sanding was needed to remove oxidation....

but i have a smaller boat (length and beam) than you do so that probably plays into the cost difference....

Does not seem high to me... That is one big boat... If they did a great job, I would just enjoy the boat...

Last October I waxed mine from the rub rail down. Here's a breakdown of my costs:

Haulout....$2100
Lot rental...$675
Gas............$15
Sore back for a week: Priceless.

The haulout was done by Lampson Crane. They're good. Nobody ever accused them of being cheap. The lot rental was to rent the space from the Port of Pasco where the boat sat for a week. They only deal with big boats and big things so they don't have a weekly rental. That $675 was the cost for a month. The gas was for me going back and forth to the boat every day to do the work.

I think you got a deal, especially when you consider you didn't have to put any "sweat equity" into the detailing job.

Ok, I have been watching this thread. I paid $1300 for a complete detail. Boat looks like new and my back feels great! You figures seem to be in line with mine.

We pay $700 for the whole boat and he does a really good job. We just don't have the time or the energy:)

Im sorry, GoFirstClass...I just choked a little on my poached eggs. But, did you just say it costs you 2100.00 just to haul your boat out of the water?

It was union longshoreman labor rates...

In Seattle I think the going rate is in the $20-$25 per foot range depending on the level of buffing needed. Just had my 23' done for $460 cash. 3 people worked 6 hours on it pretty much nonstop. Interior and exterior full detail. Looks good.
