I have a Garmin fishfinder/depthsounder on the boat. It is one of the cheaper models but has worked great for five years or so. I also have the Uniden sounder on the boat that came with it that is on the bottom of the hull. The other day the Garmin started to read different depths than the Uniden. They were never exactly the same, but usually pretty close. The Garmin shows about 3 to 4 more feet of water in what ever depth I am in. I always liked the Garmin because it seemed to be real accurate at shallow depths whereas the Uniden tended not to be and the Garmin would give me accurate reading while running at speed. The transducer for the Garmin is mounted on the transom of the boat. Anyone offer any idea why the Garmin might suddenly be putting out bad readings or what I might look at. I have to have the boat pulled this week to have some work done so this is my chance to look at the system. I went to the Garmin web site but could not really find any info that helps. Thanks

Thanks guys I will take a look at it when it comes out of the water, I had not thought of that. It has only been in a very short time his year when it started acting up, but I guess that with the hot weather we have been having there could be something on the transducer.

Sounds like the transom-mounted 'ducer got bumped by something and is now shooting at an angle.
